Though originally published nearly seventy years ago, the book maintains its relevance today. One of the fascinating things reading this book are his cultural critiques. So much has changed and nothing has changed all at the same time. 😂

Clear and full of candor

Points out how alternative messages to Christ's own message have crept into the modern church. We are dealing with the consequences now of not heeding this warning when book was written!

While I know nothing is new under the sun it's still interesting to read authors from a former eta and see how they were dealing with some of the same issues in similar ways. This book is a must read for anyone struggling with the creeping liberal tendencies in the Christian faith. Specifically it will help challenge those tendencies in yourself and hopefully give you better answers. It's just a scratching of the surface but Machen had done a good job of shining light into some of the dark crevasses where man-centers pet theologies like to hide.

This is an amazing identification and call to respond to the struggle that has hijacked the church. Dr Machen’s call to action, from a Century ago, is still needed.
Worth the read/listen.

Machen provides a brief and well detailed analysis of the problems with liberalism and how it relates to the Christian faith.

I can say that things have only gotten worse since he wrote this book but as he also states, the church will be delivered by Christ as he always has done.

Very relevant and useful for people trying to understand our current moment.

As relevant today as when it was written

This was a fantastic listen. Very relevent and I would even say necessary content for Christians today. Liberalism is infecting the churches across the US. Today they are called "progressives" but the doctrines and beliefs are neither progressive nor Christian. They are utter heresies. We Christians need to return to using our minds and study deeply on the word of God to combat these heresies and preach the truth in love. The Bible tells us to be transformed by the renewing of the mind, that requires study under the grace and provision of our Lord Jesus! Even in non-liberal churches the emphasis on the mind and teaching deep doctrines has diminished and that is a very dangerous spot to be in.
