It was a little bit of a ruff read in the beginning, I'm happy I didn't put it down. The characters started to form an so did the story. Excited to read second book.

Our protagonist, Jack Bunker is a man with a secretive past. As he rides a train through the Rocky Mountains the country is struck by an EMP. As everything grinds to a halt Bunker’s intentions are to head towards the nearest town. A young mother and her son, who have been sitting by Bunker, attach themselves to Bunker to go with him. As they travel on foot towards the town of Clearwater they come across a bus load of children in a dire situation. As Bunker and the rescued children enter Clearwater his only thought is to get back on the road and out of town as quickly as possible. His past follows him everywhere he goes and he has no intentions of having it catch up to him here and now. But the grateful townsfolk won’t let him leave. Short start to a potentially good series; three.point.five for the effort.

This is the second book in the Mission Critical series. So far it seems that all of the books in the series are shorter than average. As I said in my review of the first book, a shorter story does mean less plot development.

I still find the pace of the overall story slower than I would like. In this second book we do see the primary story lines being further developed, but we still don't have any concrete facts to work with yet.

If the third book is the same length then I will have to consider whether or not I continue with the series as it would likely take 20 books to unroll a decent story at this pace.

A single rider on a train has his white about him when the train suddenly stops, and the witnesses a plain crash. WA
king down a road with a mother and her yo ing son,, they come up on a school bus crash. Using his common sense the problems come to a safe conclusion.

A nice clean story

This book is supposed to be about a possible EMP attack. What it really is about is Bunker and a mother and son duo trekking towards Denver and rescuing kids from a school bus. Some creepy overweight guy, now a temporary deputy, who was bullied in high school and now planning his revenge as he now has "power". There are some other offshoot sub plots too. Honestly, there was just too much jumping around from group to group. Not at all what I expected after reading the book synopsis. Don't waste your $ or credits.

cover was hype, nothing like it happens in book one. story leaves you hanging, this was a sales book for series, wish I hadn't wasted my time and money listening to the audio version
