Acerca de esta escucha

An "impeccably researched and beautifully written" novel about a California marriage threatened by the Japanese internments of WWII (Karen White, New York Times best-selling author of The Sound of Glass).

Los Angeles, 1941. Violinist Maddie Kern's life seemed destined to unfold with the predictable elegance of a Bach concerto. Then she fell in love with Lane Moritomo.

Her brother's best friend, Lane is the handsome, ambitious son of Japanese immigrants. Maddie was prepared for disapproval from their families, but when Pearl Harbor is bombed the day after she and Lane elope, the full force of their decision becomes apparent. In the eyes of a fearful nation, Lane is no longer just an outsider, but an enemy.

Maddie follows when her husband is interned at a war relocation camp, sacrificing her Juilliard ambitions. Behind barbed wire, tension simmers and the line between patriot and traitor blurs. As Maddie strives for the hard-won acceptance of her new family, Lane risks everything to prove his allegiance to America - at tremendous cost - in this "beautiful, timeless love story... McMorris's words reach right off the page and grab at your heart" (Sarah Jio, New York Times best-selling author of Blackberry Winter).

Take a walk in someone else's shoes. Imagine your normal daily life turned upside down, no fault of your own, but due to the color of your skin, today you are no longer welcome and now ridiculed. The attack on Pearl Harbor changed the lives of Japanese Americans. Join this this family on their journey. You will be glad you invested your time.

This is a very deep story. It touches on the period of time around World War II. And it talks about American Japanese people, and how wrongly and truly they were treated. The writer does such a spectacular job of creating memorable characters and relationships. I’ve laughed I cried And I will always love the story. I highly recommend it to anyone who just loves a really good book.

The story was good, but the narrator made it sound like a young adult or juvenile fiction book.

narrator didn't match

The narration by Ms. Cooney was excellent. I loved it when she spoke in Japanese. There are many stories about the internment camps and their occupants, but this story was my favorite! I would highly recommend this book.

Thoroughly Enjoyed

So many families lives disrupted and lost to war. People learn to except their differences. Many sad events, mixed with happiness too. Enjoyed knowing the families came to understand each other.

I could not even listen to the book. The narration is over the top and I I'm not interested in listening to the book anymore. It's too bad, because I was interested in the premise of the actual story but I just can't listen to this narration.

the narration wasn't as rough in the last part but it prevented me from really getting into it and enjoying it as much as I could have. Great story. loved it so much. but the narration wasn't the best

Another masterpiece from the famous McMorris. An inside look of multiple characters' lives that intertwine to make quite the heart gripping story. A story of all that is good & bad in humans. How beneath it all, we are so similar yet so very different. The narrator, again, truly encompasses every beauty character in this book with her different abilities of voices. You'll listen & swear you are watching the actual film.
