In this riveting true crime book, "The Man Who Loved to Kill Women" - Dayton Leroy Rogers - was known in Portland, Oregon, as a respected businessman and devoted husband and father. But at night he abducted women, forced them into sadistic bondage games, and thrilled in their pain, terror, and mutilation. His murderous spree was stopped only after, in plain view, he slashed to death his final victim...and when a hunter accidentally stumbled onto the burial grounds of seven other women Rogers had killed one-by-one in the depths of the Molalla Forest did police realize they were dealing with a serial killer whose bloodlust knew no bounds. This is the shocking true story of the horrifying crimes, capture, and conviction of Dayton Leroy Rogers, Oregon's mild-mannered businessman by day - vicious serial killer by night.

I would've given this book 5 stars but:
2 two things bugged me about this book.
The first is his reference to street walkers as " whores" I just think there was a better way to describe them. many terms come to mine besides whore.
The second is. He referred to the serial killer like a "pit bull turning on a child" anyone with half a brain knows that pitbull's are great dogs unless not properly trained. To me it just showed the authors ignorance for not doing his research on the breed.
Now with that out-of-the-way the book was good I'd recommend it if true crime is your genre. It has a lot of detail and knowledge in it.
The narrator was very slow. But nothing that speeding it up to 125 could not fix.

Very good, but for the narrator

That being said; I did not find the story, nor the narration, to be anything close to the publisher's summary of labeling the work as riveting. Once the serial pattern was revealed I found the middle of the story to be rather boring (due to the detail) until the court proceedings toward the end of the book. Perhaps that is just the nature of true crime genres, but it was not what I was expecting from the summary. Another minor detail is I couldn't help to wonder how the publisher could describe the killer as a devoted husband and father when he was out in public bars picking up prostitutes.
I, too, found the narration to drag on, but that was easily solved by speeding up the listen a notch. I could only give the story and performance 3 stars as I found them to be about average. However, I gave a 4th start to the overall rating as, even though true crime isn't my fave listen, this one seemed to be well researched and detailed. As an aside, I often wonder how much poetic license authors take when filing in accounts of killings where there were no surviving witnesses aside from the killer.
I would only recommend this book to those that really enjoy the true crime genre as opposed to one that keeps the listener riveted and awaiting the next scene to unfold. Again, just my opinion.

Would you listen to Blood Lust again? Why?
I would. I am a seasoned True Crime book reader and I might caution that the crimes are reprehensible, and that there are no redeeming factors for murderer Dayton Leroy Rogers. There is some biographical material for Rogers near the beginning of his childhood circumstances, yet they don't mitigate his acts as an adult. What was one of the most memorable moments of Blood Lust?
Each of the descriptions of the attacks and murders certainly, but what stands out in my mind in hindsight, is his demeanor at the trials. What does Dan Orders bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I appreciated his spoken pace, it fit the material well, mostly he did a good job with various character voices. Pleasant voice and pronunciations seemed correct.Any additional comments?
I have listened to a handful of works written by Mr. King. His area of expertise in with the True Crime genre. I have enjoyed all of them including this one! Thanks for the opportunity to listen and offer my opinions on this work!

That said, it was interesting but I had to skip some of the torture- it’s not that it was included in a gratuitous manner- just too much for me to listen to.

This was one of the most disturbing books I've listened to.What was one of the most memorable moments of Blood Lust?
One of the murders was especially gruesome. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it was as interesting as it was disturbing. I wanted to find out how he was caught.Any additional comments?
Gary's books are always full of detail and answer most of the questions about the killer and the crimes. I am rarely left wondering about anything but how someone can commit such horrible crimes. Even though he gives a lot of background on the killers and how they become the way they are, it is still hard to understand how someone could be so evil.
