Legacy Makers delves into The Herds, a bold public art project bringing together puppetry and performance with the goal of climate action. Puppetry designer Siphokazi Mpofu shares her role in bringing this powerful vision to life. From April to August 2025, life-sized puppet animals are travelling over 20,000 kilometres, from the Congo Basin to the Arctic - symbolising wildlife fleeing climate catastrophe.
The Herds journey to cities throughout Africa and Europe, making an urgent and powerful call for local action.
Hosts Giles and Sangeeta talk with Siphokazi about the emotional power of puppetry, her creative processes, and how this type of climate storytelling can spark change.
As The Herds near the Arctic, not all the animals will make it, echoing the harsh truths of our warming world.
