Acerca de esta escucha
Professor Tristan Telsmith, a young and talented scholar, dreams of working in a country slightly more exotic than Nebraska. But that's not the only reason he leaves Aspinwall College for the University of Istanbul; he also thinks it a good idea to escape the attractive but bothersome Cambria Davenport, a religiously minded girl whom he believed paid him far too much attention. The greater distance he could put between himself and her the better, so Istanbul fit the bill.
Unfortunately Tristan's stay in Istanbul was not as exotic as hoped for, given that he'd spent the academic year teaching in English and hanging out in tea shops with fellow Anglophones.
To remedy the shortcoming, Tristan decides to spend the summer visiting Turkey's heartland, and this lands him in Derinkuyu, a dusty rural town whose only claim to fame is to sit atop the world's largest underground city. While there, the professor decides to help translate an old manuscript into English. Assisting him is a beautiful local tour guide.
The translation project doesn't get far off the ground before there's a murder. You would think Tristan has nothing to fear; however his warming relationship with the beautiful local tour guide causes all sorts of problems. The main one is that her rather jealous clan includes a policeman and a terrorist, neither of whom would be too sad to see Tristan either in prison or "disappeared."
You might think Tristan could turn to the girl's taciturn cousin, an Armenian monk, but he doesn't seem too interested in Tristan's fate either, and one wonders "Why?"
The only person Tristan can turn to is a fellow scholar who can help him translate the manuscript; but wouldn't you know it, she seems to remind him of Cambria at every turn. So, once again, bound by necessity, Tristan finds himself with a bothersome female that he's oddly attracted to.
Thanks to his friend's perceptive mind and his witty remarks that help lift them out of more than one problem, the two scholars turn their attention to finding the culprit in order to clear Tristan's name.
