Please like, follow, and subscribe.   BREAK: MORGAN MEDICAL JAN_FINAL STORY 1: Three new principals announced for Newton schools Newton County Schools announced three new principal appointments for the 2025-2026 school year. Dr. Vanshelle Turner will lead Indian Creek Middle School, Michael Chapple will head Alcovy High School, and Keisa Gatewood will take over Cousins Middle School. All three bring extensive experience and a focus on relationship-building and student success. Dr. Turner transitions from South Salem Elementary, Chapple moves from Indian Creek Middle, and Gatewood steps up from her role as assistant principal at Veterans Memorial Middle. Superintendent Dr. Duke Bradley praised their leadership and commitment to advancing the district's goals. STORY 2: Madison Reschedules Trash Pickup For Memorial Day, May 26 and Tuesday May 27 Madison's Street and Sanitation Department will not collect trash on Memorial Day, May 26, to give employees the day off. Monday's trash and recycling pickups will shift to Tuesday, May 27, and Tuesday's pickups will move to Wednesday, May 28. All other routes remain unchanged. Residents are encouraged to check the city's website or social media for updates. STORY 3: Two Covington teens charged in Monroe murder, shooting Two Covington teens, Laddarreus Tiller, 17, and Jatorian Ellis, 18, have been arrested and charged with murder, armed robbery, and other offenses following a May 6 shooting in Monroe. The incident resulted in the death of 17-year-old Eitenne Boakye and critical injuries to 23-year-old Jazaire Burgess. Tiller was arrested on May 17 by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team. Monroe Police thanked multiple agencies, including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, for their collaboration in the arrests. Call 770.799.6810 for more info.      We’ll be right back   Break: COPY CENTRAL STORY 4: Kidnapped Woman Seeks Help At Morgan County Rest Stop A woman at a Morgan County rest stop reported being kidnapped on May 17, prompting a police chase on Interstate 20. Covington Police spotted the suspect's vehicle, but the driver, Charles Davis, fled with the victim inside. The chase ended in Rockdale County after a PIT maneuver, and Davis was tased and arrested after attempting to flee on foot. The victim was unharmed. Investigators revealed the kidnapping began earlier that day in South Carolina, where Davis allegedly forcibly took the victim from her home. He faces multiple charges in Georgia and South Carolina. STORY 5: Jakai Newton's Kicks For A Cause Supports KD Strong Foundation Newton alumnus Jakai Newton hosted the inaugural "Kicks For A Cause" event on May 10 at Denny Dobbs Park to honor his late friend Kendarrius “KD” Spear and support the KD Strong Foundation. Despite rainy weather, the event featured giveaways, raffles, free shoes, and autographed memorabilia donated by NBA Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle. Newton emphasized spreading positivity and giving back to the community, with plans to make the event an annual tradition. Newton, a 6'4" guard, recently committed to Georgia State's basketball program after transferring from Indiana.
