A light hearted mystery that will keep you guessing and make you laugh out loud
Ruby is the most unlikely psychic ever— she figures she can just fake it until she makes it. When Ruby unjustly gets fired from her job, her best friend suggests she try her hand at being a psychic. Despite having no abilities, Ruby agrees out of financial desperation. It’s not long before the fancy tech company, Crichton Enterprises, mistakes her for a real psychic and hires her to help improve their business. At her new job, she is so good at faking it that she starts to hear a voice which tells her what to do and starts having visions that have people thinking she's lost her mind. But then her favourite co-worker disappears and her paranormal skills are called upon to find out exactly where he is. As she goes looking for him, she uncovers more than she bargains for about Crichton Enterprises and in the process puts herself in a world of danger. Can Ruby save herself and help find her missing co-worker before people find out that she's been faking it all along? A new paranormal cozy mystery with delightful characters and quippy lines that will keep you guessing. ***Reviews*** "The main character is sassy, and really relatable. Her accidental job as a psychic is pretty eventful, and I really enjoyed how that unfolded, and how the characters evolved. I'd definitely recommend this if you like a bit of intrigue, a lot of giggles, and an end that makes you go 'ohhhhhhh'." "A great read with a tight, well written and entertaining storyline revolving around an engaging well developed protagonist. I devoured the book, enjoying it thoroughly from beginning to end." Ruby felt a hand drag across her back and knew it was Cooper before she even spotted him. His presence usually preceded him. He smiled at her as he plucked her handbag off the stool and slid onto it, without so much as a slight bit of air whooshing up from where his backside hit the seat. Without talking to her, he requested a bottle of mid-range wine from the bartender and mimed that Ruby drink the dregs of her awful wine. ‘What happened?’ He inquired gently, without probing. Ruby relayed the story as he sat appropriately quiet and furrowed his brow at all the right moments. He looked genuinely sympathetic and Ruby was grateful for him and his reaction. A part of her had wondered if he, too, would blame her for getting fired. He already made it clear that he thought she acted the victim when it came to her mounting bills and lack of cash. How would this be any different? ‘That’s terrible, Ruby. Everything about it is shit. Do you want me to talk some sense into Murray?’ He offered kindly. ‘No, you need to keep your job and do not need to get into the middle of this. This mess is my own.’ ‘Good because I already tried to talk sense into him and he did not budge one bit. That arsehole.’ ‘Oh geez, what am I going to do?’ Ruby flung her head down onto her arms dramatically. ‘Well, I do have an idea.’ Ruby shot upright. ‘Oh?’ ‘This is a little… strange. A little unorthodox but bear with me.’ ‘Okay, I’m pretty much down to try anything.’ Ruby took a big sip of wine. ‘Wait! Not anything. I absolutely will not do any of that multi-level marketing shit.’ Cooper laughed his echoing laugh. ‘It’s not that. Who do you think I am?’ He feigned offence. As he rummaged in his satchel he said, ‘this book came in to work today and I thought you could read it.’ ‘I certainly have a lot of time to read now that I’m unemployed. Is it Think and Grow Rich? Because I’m not sure I can afford to sit around thinking about getting rich without actually getting a job.’ ‘No, it’s not that. Come on now, play nice.’ He pulled a thin book out of his bag and laid it between them. Ruby read the title and scrunched up her face: Working From Home as Psychic. ‘What the heck?’ Ruby stared at the book a little, waiting for Cooper to explain her confusion away.
