 A young adult fiction, Sinkhole 102 is a sequel to Tunnel 16. Five years after the Tunnel 16 adventure, Rick Jasper is a freshman physics student at Caltech when he is called upon to resolve an underworld conflict, this time in the tunnel system below Malibu Canyon. Rick agrees to do it only because he is promised gold as payment. A sinkhole opens near the beach in Malibu, and an Indian who says the sinkhole is an opening to a sacred site, jumps in and disappears. California Department of Transportation works to seal the hole and hold back the media throng that appears after the Indian disappeared. Meanwhile, upcanyon, Rick and his Indian guide enter the tunnel system and interact with the Invisibles to assist them in resolving their differences.
