Acerca de esta escucha

"Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?" Ezekiel 18:31 You have heard, my brethren, of the circumstances under which God makes this remonstrance with his people the children of Israel. He pleads with them throughout the whole of the chapter which we have read; and he sets forth his dealings with them, and shows that they are just and right as between man and his Maker. He shows that there is nothing forced, nothing unequal, nothing that we can complain of, but that everything is fair and straightforward. His grace and mercy are offered to you, and whosoever will accept that grace and mercy shall be safe, and live; but the soul that rejects it shall surely die. He tells you that no man shall suffer for any other man, and that no one shall have anything to complain of when standing before the bar of the great and almighty Judge; but that they shall then confess, that their ways were unequal, and that God's were equal. We stand here in the presence of the same God as then pleaded with Israel. He is the same God, and he bears the same character, and carries on his dealings with the same fairness towards us, as he did towards them. But, my brethren, we stand on a different footing as regards his bounty; and that I will presently, by the help of God, endeavour to explain to you in detail, when I come to press this question home to every individual soul amongst you. Let us now, however, deal with the question simply and plainly in the four words of which the text consists; for never was there a text of Holy Scripture which preached its own sermon better, than this text which we have read to you. First, then, let us take the word with which the text ends; for upon that the stress of the matter depends—“Why will ye DIE?"
