Acerca de esta escucha

September 11th, 2001
7:59 AM – That morning the firefighters at the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) and the NY electric power system operators at The Electric Authority (TEA), an electric utility, were just beginning their day shifts, going through their normal prescribed everyday duties. Nothing unusual was either anticipated by anyone or happening … yet.
Unknown to all, far away in Boston, American Airlines flight 11, on route from Providence, Maine was taking off from Boston’s Logan Airport with 76 passengers, 11 crew members, and 5 hijackers on board, ostensibly bound for Los Angeles, California.
8:15 AM – Only 16 minutes later, United Flight 175 took off from that same airport with 51 passengers, 9 crew members, and 5 hijackers on board, also ostensibly bound for Los Angeles, California.
Extremely lax airport security at that time and especially in New England gave those terrorists with their murderous intents relatively easy access to those doomed flights.
After an armed struggle on each plane, both airplanes were under the control of the terrorists. Those barbarians then readied themselves for their staggering Terrorist Attack!
8:46 AM – A huge explosion, ‘Kaboom,’ was heard as American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the World Trade Center’s (WTC’s) North Tower, trapping everyone there above the 91st Floor.
The sound heard at FDNY Fire-Rescue Station number Ten (10) across the street at 124 Liberty Street in Southern Manhattan was absolutely deafening. Everyone on duty (most eating breakfast in the kitchen) heard it and most ran outside to see what had happened. The sky was absolutely raining debris and jet fuel on them.
9:03 AM – A few minutes later, second huge explosion, ‘Kaboom,’ echoed throughout the concrete canyons of southern Manhattan as United Flight 175 crashed into the WTC’s South Tower with that second horrifyingly enormous sound.
9:59 AM – The ground trembled as the South Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed. Smoke and debris flew everywhere. And there was quite literally panic in the streets.
10:28 AM – The ground trembled again as the North Tower of the World Trade Center finally collapsed. The entire Financial District, later referred to as ‘Ground Zero’ was engulfed in smoke, dust, debris, and running screaming frightened people coughing, gasping for air, and desperately hoping for life.
Suddenly, everything went black as power was lost immediately following the North Tower collapse. Everything south of Canal Street went completely dark.
5:30 PM – Finally, as a last horrific insult, building 7 of the World Trade Center collapsed. More dust, ash, and debris billowed out from the site covering everything everywhere.
Lost because of that terrible day and always remembered as heroes were six firefighters from the Ten House’s Bravest.
“A moment of silence, please,” Frank requested.
Then Frank, a full-grown man, a former US Army Seargent, an FDNY firefighter, broke down, and cried his heart out for those, his lost brothers, heroes everyone.
Weeks Later FDNY Ladder 10 and its crew of heroes would be found buried under 40 feet of WTC rubble.
This is the story of two men who lived through this disaster. It is told from their own unique perspectives.
