Acerca de esta escucha
It is likely that death is an illusion and that you will live forever. It could also be that everything is the way you think it is but that’s highly unlikely.
Experiment with Reality is a mix of nonfiction and fiction. Most of it is nonfiction; the final pages of the book are fiction.
As an “unbiased author” let me add that this book is as brilliant as the following two bestsellers combined—The Catcher in the Rye and Why Does the World Exist?
That sounds arrogant, I know. However, it’s just my kind of honesty. Somewhere else I tell you that I am a failure. I see things both ways.
One of my friends didn’t read past the first ten pages. I gave him the manuscript and he returned it the next day and said, “Fred, I stopped reading after a few pages; what you wrote is unrealistic.” He had just helped himself to a bottle of beer from my fridge.
I asked him, “Are you definitely holding in one of your hands a bottle of beer made of solid physical glass?” I stressed the words definitely and solid physical.
“Yes!” he emphasized, “I am.”
“And there is no other possibility? Absolutely none?”
“Absolutely none!” he repeated my words.
“And you are equally certain that you took that bottle of beer out of the fridge just a minute or two ago and not at any other time?”
“Yes. Absolutely. Definitely. Unquestionably.” He chuckled and seemed to enjoy himself.
I replied, “Your unwillingness even to consider highly logical alternatives is, indeed, shockingly rock-solid.”
“What do you mean?” he asked, slightly irritated.
I also got myself a bottle of beer and soon we stopped talking about philosophical stuff but half an hour later he surprised me when he suddenly asked, “Do you believe in God?”
“Read the book,” I replied. “Just read it! You will find the answer there.”
I could have added—
First, I tell you a few things about science, which you may find both fascinating and confusing, then I tell you a bit about my past, which is interesting but complicated, then you are ready to read about the current phase of my life, which is mind-boggling and tells you a few things about life, death and the universe, and finally, I allow you to see glimpses of what happens to me after my so-called death.
