A village of secrets finds its past lies waiting.

When mourners gather in the village of Lower Gladdock, the grave is found to be already occupied. The victim is soon linked to a tragedy that tore the village apart five years ago and is handed over to the Bexford police to solve.

Detective Sergeant Guy Poole is hoping to put his traumatic past behind him and settle into his new station at Bexford. Now history is threatening to raise its head again, and he has a murder case to contend with.

Detective Inspector Sam Brock has a new recruit to take under his wing, and he's determined this one isn't going to die. As if that wasn't enough of a headache, his wife is coming home and may be on the verge of discovering the lie he's been telling her.

Newly paired duo Brock and Poole must track down the killer before more lives are lost.

Well written and not always expected turns. I appreciate believable storylines. Great performance but still sometimes hard to discern voices. Fortunately, the text clarifies.

I enjoy procedural mysteries and detective novels. This really fits the bill….. well narrated, look forward to number two

Definitely a character driven mystery, and the characters certainly are. But it's also a good procedural with exceptional due diligence. The publishers blurb is a good hook, so no need for recap or spoilers. Very good read!
Nigel Patterson showcases his talents by differentiating the characters, and his range of accent and tone is really great.

This is a well read and well written cozy. I enjoyed the little descriptive details, and I liked the characters and plot. My interest was kept throughout, and I already have the next two books to listen to.

I think the narrator's gift for subtle voice changes really helps this cozy mystery. The change of tone he uses is perfect to indicate the change in character, look forward to hearing his work again.
Also truly enjoyed the story and will look into reading (or listening to) more Brock and Poole.

Early on I guessed the guilty party, but didn’t care because the story held my interest.
I will definitely be purchasing the rest of this series.
