It was a lovely twist on the original with some great plot twists thrown in. I do wish they had spent more time with the magic side though and more information on her learning. as the first in the series it keeps me wanting more

ASTER IS THE LOCAL TOWNS HEALER ALSO KNOWN AS A GREENWITCH, AND TAKES THE PLACE OF HER SISTER WHEN THE BEAST COMES TO TAKE A TITHE GIRL, SHROUDED IN MYSTERY, AND DARKNESS ASTER SLOWLY BREAKS DOWN THE WALLS OF THE BEAST, AND DISCOVERS SOMETHINGS ARE NOT AS THEY APPEAR TO BE! IN THE END WILL ASTER CHOOSE HER HEART OR HER FAMILY ? AND THE END OF THE STORY DOES MORE OF END ON A CLIFF HANGER, BUT THE SERIES IS FINALLY COMPLETED FOR AUDIO!
LUCY BROWNHILL DID A FANTASTIC JOB WITH THE NARRATION OF THE SERIES!

The narrator is amazing which makes the book very interesting. The story is exciting which u can’t stop listening to.

I dont think I would have noticed some of this if other bits of the book hadnt been so good but... The main character changes her mind and attitudes either with very little prompting or for reasons that make no sense. I would like her if she weren't so unforgivably stupid, one minute fending off a murderous fae with her awesome greenwichery, then having to be saved from them like 3 times, then I guess forgetting she had to be saved and inner monolouging about how strong she is because she'd "faced them" . It feels like her changes in attitude are used to keep the story going rather than having real character development or relationship development or anything beyond surface level plot points. Its a decent Beauty and the Beast retelling idea, kind of like COTAR light without the bait and switch? But for a character that we are meant to believe is intelligent and mature (and who sometimes is) she is often motivated or blinded by some very simple and unecessary misunderstandings and emotions, especially when it comes to the beast. Also, I felt I was more told than shown the budding romance. OH, and they drugged her, that was insane, how could I forget? The main reason I kept reading was because I thought the thorn wreath etc at the begining was chefs kiss, and curiosity over the authors version of the cause of the curse.

The authors changed the name from beast to fae. And other characters alike. It's not that big of a change or retelling.

Boring storyline

I really don’t care what happens afterwards, it’s never okay to drug someone without consent for your own amusement. I couldn’t keep reading after that point, falling for someone that has such little regard for your own bodily autonomy does not make for a nice romance.
