THE PRICE OF WAR
The war Iris always feared has finally come. No longer content to send spies to spread discontent in Tasmeria, Tweil descends with their army. Iris must rush back to her duchy to defend her people and rally the other territories to her cause. But no one survives war unscathed, and all too soon Iris will face a loss even she may not be able to endure.

This cannot be the end of the well-crafted story!

Wonderful

I was happy to discover that the author didn't decide to stretch things out and ruin it, this is actually the final book of the main series (The last 3 books are a prequel, about Iris' mother, who isn't even a Duke's daughter!).
Anyway, buckle your seatbelt, be ready to sit down, etc, because this thing is a rollercoaster. An extremely good rollercoaster. And an extremely well-narrated rollercoaster.
Really great finale

The ending was written like a TV show trying to quickly wrap things up and give us glimpses into the future after the story "ends" felt really... and it felt disappointing.
Instead of fleshing out story and relationships more, it felt--more than ever--it wanted to have lengthy rants about duty and honor and everything else. it never felt like a conversation but essays written and THEN you get to actually experience glimpses of actual human interaction. I feel like there was more of a balance in the first three books but it just got marginally worse because it was trying to speed-run such a fun and exciting story. I wish the author didn't feel the need to rush it all to make this the final book because I really wanted the author to stick the landing.
Pacing...
