 Francis Hamit writes about his experiences at the University of Iowa in 1965 and 1966. He transferred in as a junior and was caught up in the cultural and political events that were changing the world. As the Sexual Revolution got under way, he became involved with several very interesting and unusual women. There was also a darker revolution, the sudden widespread popularity of illegal drugs. This he could not abide; friends of his were under threat of prison for simple possession unless they turned over the names of their dealers. Hamit made a deal with the cops: leave my friends alone and I will give the dealers. He was already in place, a perfect spy. These are the opening chapters of his forthcoming book OUT OF STEP: A Memoir of the Vietnam War Years.
