Acerca de esta escucha

An excellent bottle of wine can be the spark that inspires a brainstorming session. Such was the case for Ian Tattersall and Rob DeSalle, scientists who frequently collaborate on book and museum exhibition projects. When the conversation turned to wine one evening, it almost inevitably led the two - one a palaeoanthropologist, the other a molecular biologist - to begin exploring the many intersections between science and wine. This audiobook presents their fascinating, freewheeling answers to the question: What can science tell us about wine? And vice versa.

Conversational and accessible to everyone, this book embraces almost every imaginable area of the sciences, from microbiology and ecology (for an understanding of what creates this complex beverage) to physiology and neurobiology (for insight into the effects of wine on the mind and body). The authors draw on physics, chemistry, biochemistry, evolution, and climatology, and they expand the discussion to include insights from anthropology, primatology, entomology, Neolithic archaeology, and even classical history. The resulting volume is indispensable for anyone who wishes to appreciate wine to its fullest.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Accomplished narrator Kevin R. Free rises to the considerable challenge of telling the many detailed stories in this audiobook dedicated to the world of grapes, vines, and wine.... Free's forthright style and clear delivery deftly enliven this scientific journey into wine's natural history." ( AudioFile)

Good premise, and full of solid information. A lot of what’s covered can be found other places, so if you read much about wine there will be a lot of review.

The new information inside is really in-depth scientifically, and quickly gets overwhelming.

Still worth the listen.

Heavy on science

So much intresting data that one wants to look into when presented with all of these different aspects of grapes and wine making.

All the references on a pdf.

I loved the in depth review of the science of wine.. I learned to love those wines I currently enjoy and to explore so many others!!

a great review of wine science,!

Although trying hard to appear well researched, this book is loaded with invented falsities plus pointless name dropping of technical jargon. Worse, the reader did zero research on correct pronunciation. Vinification comes out as “VINE ification,” vinous as “VINE ous”, botrytis as “BOW trytis,” and so forth. This book is crazy-making for anyone who knows the first thing about wine.

Inaccurate and poorly read
