Watch your back! How to spot and identify demons and other subversive spirits...and what to do next.

Demons, fairies, and fallen angels are everywhere. They lurk at crossroads, crouch behind doors, hide in trees, slip into beds, wait in caves, hover at weddings and childbirths, disguise themselves as friends, relatives - even disguise themselves as you. They are powerful; they are protean; they are enchanting. And, to the uninformed, they are often invisible. This guide - the first of its kind - reveals the remarkable permutations of the demon and fairy species worldwide.

Packed with lore about each demon, detailing its origins, the culture surrounding it, and its reputed antics and exploits, A Field Guide to Demons, Fairies, Fallen Angels, and Other Subversive Spirits is a fascinating exploration of global mythologies. Perfect for the armchair traveler and the intrepid, seasoned demon-spotter alike, this complete guide to subversive spirits offers a behind-the-scenes look at the devilish mishaps, impish irritations, and demonic devastations that punctuate our lives.

Reseñas editoriales

World travelers planning trips to the Tommyknocker-inhabited mines of North America or to the domain of the Mbulu, who guards the rivers of South America, might consider first listening to Carol and Dinah Mack's Field Guide to Demons, Vampires, Fallen Angels, and Other Subversive Spirits. Or better yet, they might take in this audio bestiary from the relative safety of their own home, where narrator Reay Kaplan adopts an engaging, teacherly tone to catalogue an entire world of enchanted spirits. Experienced demonologists may find the Mack's guide rudimentary, but casual investigators of the supernatural will learn much in this thoroughgoing primer. Arranged geographically by habitat - ocean, desert, forest - the Macks' audiobook is a kind of supernatural and folkloric Who's Who.

Loved this book immensely. An unbiased and no nonsense introduction to the less than benevolent entities that inhabit our world. This book offers various perspectives from many cultures around the world and let's the reader sift through it for themselves. I particularly liked the epilogue. I was surprised and a bit disappointed that the book did not cover the native american skinwalker myth, which is of particular interest to me. It does however cover their ilk from other cultures which I found fascinating.

A concise and well rounded grimoire

This book terrified me and almost made me quit listening right when it helped me discover my own personal demon.

Phenomenal book, if you are openly honest.

I definitely recommend a listen. It was a lot of fun learning about different myth, and legend around the world.

It was a fun book.

The book is read like a field guide would. Being that it's a book meant to be a reference, it sounds weird to have someone jump in and read it to you cover to cover. Enjoyable to listen too but much is lost in the way a book of this type is used.

Reads like a field guide would

Great run through of a variety of creatures. Description, history and short folk tale. I enjoyed it very much.

Very interesting

This comes closer to a scholarly review than an occult manual. Just so you know.

As someone with a college degree (same as one of the author); as well as someone who has lived among and worked with people who have different belief systems than modern Western culture; and who has seen things that defy modern Western explanation ....I totally enjoyed this. The more I listened, the more I enjoyed it.

I recommend it. I didn't knock off a star for any reason other than that on a relative basis, its not the most transformative work I have ever read. But, its totally unique and extremely well researched.

Not what I was expecting, but good.
