Noraly Schoenmaker was a thirtysomething geologist living in the Netherlands when she learned that her live-in partner had been having a long-term affair. Intrigued by Polynesian folklore, biologist Thor Heyerdahl suspected that the South Sea Islands had been settled by an ancient race from thousands of miles to the east, led by a mythical hero, Kon-Tiki. He decided to prove his theory by duplicating the legendary voyage.

This is a true tale of adventure in high and distant lands. This is a tale of two western women, who, with the help of three Nepali men trek through the remote and high mountain wilderness of the Himalayas to fulfill a long-held dream. They dye their hair black, climb into traditional Tibetan dresses and embark on an illegal, harrowing trek to Mount Kailash in the far west of Tibet. Facing wild dogs, possible arrest, exposure, lack of food and water; where one wrong step could plummet them to certain death, their spiritual pilgrimage is a testimony to the resilience of the human spirit.
