Ein ganz anderes, farbigeres Bild erscheint, wenn man die zahlreichen literarischen Fragmente, die Tagebücher und Briefe Kafkas mit einbezieht — in all diesen Genres hat sich seine sprachliche Produktivität entfaltet, und erst in der Gesamtschau werden viele heitere, komische, groteske Facetten sichtbar, die mit seinem düsteren Nimbus als eigentlich unvereinbar gelten. Dabei gibt es einen Kafka zu entdecken, der offenbar Freude hat am Spiel mit Formen, Einfällen und Pointen.

Was Rilke mit anderen "offenen Quellen" dieser Geistesströmung, wie Nietzsche, Heine, Kierkegaard und Hölderlin gemeinsam hat, ist das Vertrauen in den Menschen, ohne das der Mut zur Redlichkeit, zu einem unverstellten Glauben niemals möglich wäre.
