Historia
In the far distant future, the universe is officially ruled by the Royal Consortium, but the High Councillors, the heads of the three high houses, wield the true power. As the fifth of six children, Ada von Hasenberg has no authority; her only value to her high house is as a pawn in a political marriage. When her father arranges for her to wed a noble from House Rockhurst, a man she neither wants nor loves, Ada seizes control of her own destiny. The spirited princess flees before the betrothal ceremony and disappears among the stars.

Emily stop whispering
Revisado: 03-05-22
You’re a pretty good narrator, but even with my volume on full I can barely hear you over other things im doing. Your voice sounds like you are whispering when narrating. Not when you are talking at the very end of the book though. So I know you can talk normally! Book was pretty good though overall. Plenty of story left to tell.

Historia
Jordan McKell has a problem with authority. Unfortunately for him, the iron-fisted authority of the powerful Patthaaunutth controls virtually every aspect of galactic shipping. In order to survive, Jordan ekes out a living dabbling in interstellar smuggling for outlaw concerns that represent the last vestiges of free trade in the galaxy. So when Jordan and his partner, Ixil - an alien with two ferret-like "outhunters" linked to his neural system - are hired by a mysterious gentleman to fly a ship and its special cargo to Earth, they jump at the job.

Narrator needs some practice, but good book
Revisado: 02-21-22
Was pleasantly surprised by book overall. Was a fun listen and I enjoyed the murder mystery angle. The narrator was a bit much… Emphasees were on the wrong things and it was a tad awkward. I’m sure with a bit more practice he will improve. Voice impersonations were good though.

Historia
In a far corner of space, on the very borders between humanity’s Polity worlds and the kingdom of the vicious crab-like prador, is an immediate threat to all sentient life: an accretion disc, a solar system designed by the long-dead Jain race and swarming with living technology powerful enough to destroy entire civilizations. Neither the Polity or the prador want the other in full control of the disc, so they’ve placed an impartial third party in charge of the weapons platform guarding the technology from escaping into the galaxy: Orlandine, a part-human, part-AI haiman.

Very underrated
Revisado: 08-14-21
Been a while since i’ve read sci fi book this well put together. It combines many aspects of sci-fi i enjoy. Unusual for me to enjoy “war sci fi” books, but this series is a tasteful balance of character and world building, politics, and conflict. The writing and conveyance of knowledge is concise and clear to an unusual level and the representation of AI and their thinking is not overwhelming yet very convincing. This first book, like all good series in my opinion, is a bit slow to get into due to all the moving parts, though still more action packed than most. The second book begins to really hook me. The third im sure will be fantastic. Haven’t read yet 😋

Definitely YA
Revisado: 03-22-21
Don’t bother listening if you don’t like YA. That will save you an unnecessary bad review. For what it is it wasn’t too bad but it was definitely not directed at the usual audience. I could definitely see some Hamilton in it, but quite different than i was expecting.

Historia
For short-lived races like humans, space is dominated by the complicated, grandiose Mercatoria. To the Dwellers who may live billions of years, the galaxy consists of their gas-giant planets - the rest is debris. Fassin Taak is a Slow Seer privileged to work with the Dwellers of the gas-giant Nasqueron. His work consists of rummaging for data in their vast, disorganised memories and libraries. Unfortunately, without knowing it, he's come close to an ancient secret of unimaginable importance.

Narrator a bit flat
Revisado: 03-13-21
Got better toward the end but it was hard to enjoy the story because the narrator was so flat. All the characters mostly sounded the same. Action scenes were paced the same as non-actions scenes. Etc. I mostly enjoyed the story though despite this. Not enough techy detail though, everything was a bit to “taken for granted”.

How is this series still so darn good?
Revisado: 12-23-20
Really... i would expect this type of story to feel episodic and boring by now but it is still SO GOOD. Mind, it’s no Expanse, but the sheer entertainment I get out of the series never ceases to amaze. Another good installment and can’t wait for the next!
PS: Hope you have an end in sight, because these things simply cannot go on forever, Craig! We didn’t learn anything new, really, abouy Skippy’s past or the Elders this book. So it does feel like the overarching story was not progressed as it usually is.

Evolved better than expected
Revisado: 12-06-20
At first it felt a little dull and typical of stories like this, but it evolved into something unique enough that I really enjoyed it. Definitely a worthwhile read! Brought together story elements that I have not seen together before, and the characters were defined and showed growth throughout the story. Still enough questions unanswered that I will happily continue to the next books.

Before: In Bristol’s center lies the Croft, a digital no-man’s-land cut off from the surveillance, Big Data dependence, and corporate-sponsored, globally hegemonic aspirations that have overrun the rest of the world. Ten years in, it’s become a center of creative counterculture. But it’s fraying at the edges, radicalizing from inside. How will it fare when its chief architect, Rushdi Mannan, takes off to meet his boyfriend in New York City - now the apotheosis of the new techno-utopian global metropolis?

Narrator needs to stop whispering
Revisado: 09-06-20
I couldn’t even finish this book because the narrator is just whispering the whole time. I cannot stand narration like that. Please renarrate and talk normally.
The story, of what ai managed to suffer through, was also fairly boring. Not my cup of tea for sure, but that is a “me” problem. I would have at least been able to finish it if the narration was any good.

Don’t understand the hype
Revisado: 01-16-20
It wasn’t a bad book per se, but the story is more that of a movie than a book. All the world building, character connection, and sense of time passing has been glossed over so as to get straight to the action scenes. The book should have either been twice as long or split into 2 books.
The narrator was quite poor here. There was essentially one emotion throughout the entire reading and it never varied no-matter what was happening in the story.
