Historia
An aging judge about to step down. Aggressive prosecutors friendly with the judge. A disgraced president. A nation that had already made up its mind. The Watergate trials were a legal mess-and now, with the discovery of new documents that reveal shocking misconduct by prosecutors and judges alike, former Nixon staffer Geoff Shepard has a convincing case that the wrongdoing of these history-making trials was actually a bigger scandal than the Watergate scandal itself.

Convincing evidence of a conspiracy against the Nixon administration

Shepard does a fantastic job weaving his research into the narrative of Watergate in a way to reframe, what I had assumed, was a settled matter.

Historia
Both astonishing and prophetic, The Abolition of Man remains one of C. S. Lewis's most controversial works. Lewis sets out to persuade his audience of the ongoing importance and relevance of universal objective values, such as courage and honor, and the foundational necessity of natural law. He also makes a cogent case that a retreat from these pillars of our educational system, even if in the name of "scientism", would be catastrophic. National Review lists it as number seven on their "100 Best Nonfiction Books of the 20th Century".

what starts off as the critique of a grammar book quickly turns to a defense of moral standard and axioms of moral behavior. Louis is careful to put forward generous counterargument and met then exquisitely. I am looking forward to taking in more of his work. it's a short bit worth listening to again and again.

Historia
We are living through the most prosperous age in all of human history, yet we are listless, divided, and miserable. Wealth and comfort are unparalleled, but our political landscape is unmoored, and rates of suicide, loneliness, and chronic illness continue to skyrocket. How do we explain the gap between these truths? And how should we respond? For evolutionary biologists Heather Heying and Bret Weinstein, the cause of our troubles is clear: The accelerating rate of change in the modern world has outstripped the capacity of our brains and bodies to adapt.

the strength of the evolutionary perspective
Revisado: 01-31-22
Brett and Heather, both evolutionary biologist with years of experience as researchers and educators, give the reader a much needed software upgrade. The author's introduce the tools developed out of a careful study of nature and then apply these tools to frame our own place in the world. The often bring in experiences from their own life to show the reader how their prescriptive lead to choices counter to completing expertise in the fields of medicine, nutrition, or politics. at the same time they are careful to recognize the limits of their own understanding such as advocating against the use of casts for small breaks but advocating surgical intervention in the case of possible damage to areas unlike to heal themselves correctly. In all, I feel the books leaves the reader more well equipped to apply wisdom to their everyday lives.

Historia
In today's ultra-polarized and highly partisan political environment, Welfare for the Rich is one of the rare books written to appeal to engaged and open-minded citizens from across the political spectrum. Welfare for the Rich is the first book to describe and analyze the many ways that federal and state governments provide handouts - subsidies, grants, tax credits, loan guarantees, price supports, and many other payouts - to millionaires, billionaires, and the companies they own and run.

Great education for the right and left
Revisado: 12-20-21
Welfare for the Rich delves deep into the ways the rich use the government to cushion them investments, fatten their pockets, and subvert good governance. I loves this book and listen to it two times in a row. I will probably our purchase a hardcopy to read in greater detail.

Historia
In Hate Crime Hoax, professor Wilfred Reilly examines over 100 widely publicized incidents of so-called hate crimes that never actually happened. With a critical eye and attention to detail, Reilly debunks these fabricated incidents - many of them alleged to have happened on college campuses - and explores why so many Americans are driven to fake hate crimes. We're not experiencing an epidemic of hate crimes, Reilly concludes - but we might be experiencing an unprecedented epidemic of hate crime hoaxes.

Dragging the memory hole.
Revisado: 02-16-21
I was fascinated by this book. The author does an amazing job of following up on the most high profile hate crimes and gives a definitive report on what happened once we all stopped paying attention. Every page reminds us how collective memory is vital to inject a bit of skepticism into out lives.
I listened to the audio book and am probably going to give it a second listen right now.
