Just can't continue
Revisado: 08-30-24
Want to like it. Wanted to read the whole series. It just never picked up speed. Narrator is good but I'm am 10 hours in and I can't continue. Character development of the antagoists is so thin I cannot maintain interest. Protagonist is pretty predictable and when she does dumb things and you can see the fight coming up I just cringe.

Good and will probably get better.
Revisado: 08-02-22
The narrator is just not OK. Same voice for both main characters. Little accurate inflection. Made me think I was listening to a 6th grader read a story to me.
Story is very good. I enjoyed the plot and the overall narrative.
I could have enjoyed it more with better use of a thesaurus. I started counting how many times the characters said “I don’t know.” It May have been a purposeful narrative device. I don’t know…
But on the whole, I’m glad I made the purchase and I’m downloading book 2.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Dang
Revisado: 10-11-20
It draws you in. It makes you sad. It makes you happy. It makes you sad again. It makes you guess. It makes you believe. Then disbelieve. Then guess again. At the end this book makes you sit back and say, “OK. That was what was right. I am content. “ thank you for these hours of listening.

Historia
An orphan's life is harsh---and often short---in the island city of Camorr, built on the ruins of a mysterious alien race. But born with a quick wit and a gift for thieving, Locke Lamora has dodged both death and slavery, only to fall into the hands of an eyeless priest known as Chains---a man who is neither blind nor a priest. A con artist of extraordinary talent, Chains passes his skills on to his carefully selected "family" of orphans---a group known as the Gentlemen Bastards.

Really wonderful on many levels.
Revisado: 06-18-19
It’s not PG. But it’s not crass and vulgar for the sake of shock.
There is death and violence but not gratuitous, and instead is in keeping with telling the story.
The heroes are flawed, I am loathe to say, in many of the right ways that make us admire them. It is intelligently written, cerebral, but not pretentious. And in the end it is a story I will enjoy listening to more than once.

Lyra is rushing to the cold, far North, where witch clans and armored bears rule. North, where the Gobblers take the children they steal—including her friend Roger. North, where her fearsome uncle Asriel is trying to build a bridge to a parallel world. Can one small girl make a difference in such great and terrible endeavors? This is Lyra: a savage, a schemer, a liar, and as fierce and true a champion as Roger or Asriel could want. But what Lyra doesn't know is that to help one of them will be to betray the other.

Good story. Forced pace of reading
Revisado: 10-29-17
The story is great, but the pace of the dialog between characters is forced to be fast and tight together. if they want to use an ensemble, then let them pace the conversation as if it were different people talking

Love the Vorkisigan Saga
Revisado: 07-01-16
Great story. Very fun to listen to. But please Mr. Grover Gardner, make sure there is continuity in pronunciation from one book to the next. Names shouldn't change how they are said between books.
