I’m obsessed by Harris’s writing. This book is perfection, gripping, terrifying, tragic, and utterly gripping.

A perfect listen
Revisado: 10-06-24
Wow. Do you know one of those books that halfway you wish you could slow down because you’re loving it so much? Well, here you go.
I’m a huge Thursday Murder Club fan so I was nervous that We Solve Murders wouldn’t cut it but I was wrong- Osman has a gift for creating warm, hilarious, flawed and charming characters that you cannot help rooting for. His books are comforting with being shallow and slyly funny.
Hoping to hear more from this crew- and the narration was perfection!

Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

Historia
No drinking, no smoking, no cursing, no dancing, no R-rated movies. Kevin roose wasn't used to rules like these. As a sophomore at Brown University, he spent his days drinking fair-trade coffee, singing in an a cappella group, and fitting right in with Brown's free-spirited, ultra-liberal student body. But when Roose leaves his Ivy League confines to spend a semester at Liberty University, a conservative Baptist school in Lynchburg, Virginia, obedience is no longer optional.

I totally enjoyed this book- it wasn’t insanely dramatic or heart stopping but it made for an excellent and enjoyable listen. I also love the author’s podcast Rabbit Hole.

Historia
When Cora Seaborne's brilliant, domineering husband dies, she steps into her new life as a widow with as much relief as sadness: her marriage was not a happy one. Wed at 19, this woman of exceptional intelligence and curiosity was ill-suited for the role of society wife. Seeking refuge in fresh air and open space in the wake of the funeral, Cora leaves London for a visit to coastal Essex, accompanied by her inquisitive and obsessive 11-year old son, Francis, and the boy's nanny, Martha.

Historia
Black Swan Green tracks a single year in what is, for 13-year-old Jason Taylor, the sleepiest village in muddiest Worcestershire in dying Cold War England, 1982. But the 13 chapters, each a short story in its own right, create an exquisitely observed world that is anything but sleepy. Pointed, funny, profound, left-field, elegiac, and painted with the stuff of life, Black Swan Green is David Mitchell's subtlest and most effective achievement to date.

Writing glorious, but narrator truly shocking
Revisado: 10-21-19
Why oh why oh why would anyone destroy a book of this magnitude with this crappy narration?! Looked up Kirby Heyborne who I learned is American. Couldn’t they find any English actors to read this??? Honestly I love David Mitchell’s work but this guy’s horrific accent is truly killing me. Please don’t waste your money/credit. Just read it yourself. Wish I had.

Historia
In 2011, a 26-year-old libertarian programmer named Ross Ulbricht launched the ultimate free market: the Silk Road, a clandestine website hosted on the Dark Web where anyone could trade anything - drugs, hacking software, forged passports, counterfeit cash, poisons - free of the government's watchful eye. It wasn't long before the media got wind of the new website where anyone - not just teenagers and weed dealers but terrorists and black hat hackers - could buy and sell contraband detection-free.

Revisado: 04-25-19
I’m an exhausted mother. I’m also an exhausted writer, so I’m tough audience (no attention span and deeply critical ) but this was a totally masterful, gripping AMAZING read. More adjectives ( sorry Stephen King) Powerful, fast paced and mesmerizing. Perfect for making the hours unloading and reloading the dishwasher speed by too ;) Hats off to Nick Bilton, and Will Damron’s narration for doing the work justice.

Historia
It's 1934. Businesses went under by the hundreds, debt and foreclosures boomed, and breadlines grew in many American cities. In the midst of this misery, some folks explored unscrupulous ways to make money. Angel-faced John Partlow and carnival huckster Ginger LaFrance are among the worst of this lot. Joining together they leave their small-time confidence scams behind to attempt an elaborate kidnapping-for-ransom scheme in New Orleans.
