Historia
In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. As Lara recalls the past, her daughters examine their own lives and relationship with their mother, and are forced to reconsider the world and everything they thought they knew.

The lives of women
Revisado: 03-17-18
For me, the woman characters created by Anita Diamant are some of the best in contemporary fiction. They are rich, complex and compelling. I always understand more about myself and my family thru her novels. I thank her.

Just as she gave voice to the silent women of the Old Testament in The Red Tent, Anita Diamant creates a cast of breathtakingly vivid characters - young women who escaped to Israel from Nazi Europe - in this intensely dramatic novel.

Day after Night
Revisado: 01-31-18
This is an extraordinary novel juxtaposing the unimaginable suffering inflicted by the Nazis during the war with courage and resilience of the survivors. The characters are so magnificently developed the reader wants to reach back into history to stay with them.

Historia
In her phenomenally popular essays and long-running Tumblr blog, Roxane Gay has written with intimacy and sensitivity about food and body, using her own emotional and psychological struggles as a means of exploring our shared anxieties over pleasure, consumption, appearance, and health. As a woman who describes her own body as "wildly undisciplined", Roxane understands the tension between desire and denial, between self-comfort and self-care.

Too repetitive -
Revisado: 07-21-17
My heart aches for the pain her rape -the horrendous violation of Ms. Gay's body and soul, caused her when she was as a young girl, and which continues to haunt her. Her psyche still clearly needs a constant reminder of what was done to her, and therefore the reason for her choice to become morbidly obese, and the various other rather self-destructive behaviors she has engaged in. I hope she can someday find peace.
The constant re -telling of the same story, however, made for rather tedious listening. While Ms Gay keeps the story constantly recycling in her head, as a reader of her memoir I didn't feel the need to be reminded what happened what felt like every few sentences. Not to be insensitive, but I got the idea. The memoir felt to me like variations on exactly the same theme, chapter after chapter.
