The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

I’m not a massive Star Wars fan but I do love geopolitics. This book wrapped up both strategic politics, explanations of the force and how it works, and ties up the pre clone wars canon with an ainsideous little bow!

Historia
A powerful, moving memoir - and a practical guide to healing - written by Dr. Edith Eva Eger, an eminent psychologist whose own experiences as a Holocaust survivor help her treat patients and allow them to escape the prisons of their own minds. The Choice weaves Eger's personal story with case studies from her work as a psychologist. Her patients and their stories illustrate different phases of healing and show how people can choose to escape the prisons they construct in their minds and find freedom, regardless of circumstance.

Historia
Like many Germans, Berlin schoolboy Erwin Bartmann fell under the spell of the Zeitgeist cultivated by the Nazis. Convinced he was growing up in the best country in the world, he dreamt of joining the Leibstandarte, Hitler's elite Waffen SS unit. Tall, blond, blue-eyed, and just 17-years-old, Erwin fulfilled his dream on Mayday 1941, when he gave up his apprenticeship at the Glaser bakery in Memeler Strasse and walked into the Lichterfelde barracks in Berlin as a raw, volunteer recruit.

Stunning look at the experience of an average German soldier during WWII
Revisado: 11-27-23
It is very easy to place the entirety of WWII era Germany into a large box labeled evil, with good reason, but this book offers a more humanistic look at the average german soldier’s experience during WWII.
It does feel a bit odd following a German soldier through WWII in this narrative memoir, but this book offers a good look behind the curtain at the military life of an everyday nazi german enlisted man.

Man's Search for Meaning

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

Touching story that offers a great perspective for those who are suffering
Revisado: 11-22-23
Dr. Frankl has a very compelling message regarding the state of humankind’s psyche and the abundant lack of purpose and presence of directionless derived from both boredom and strife. His experience as a ‘less than human’ Jewish prisoner in WWII Nazi concentration camps gave him a unique perspective to compare and contrast the relatively mundane suffering of ordinary man to the robust and inhumane suffering of people forced into his position; in turn offering his logotherapitic approach to tackling these trauma and gaining personal perspective in kind with the manner that the Stoic school of philosophy tend to view suffering and fate. Dr. Frankl is not quiet Nietzsche-esque in his approach to tackling strife but holds symmetrical views towards the idea of ‘Amor Fati’, or the love of fate.
I’d declare this a must read for anyone who feels that life has dealt them an unfair hand and are struggling to cope with it. As well as anyone struggling to see the full spectrum of the human condition and are in want of a broader field of view regarding Justice and Perseverance.

When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity. Cloning, feel-good drugs, anti-aging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media: has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller's genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 A.F. (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

The Autobiography of Andrew Carnegie and The Gospel of Wealth

Historia
His good friend Mark Twain dubbed him "St. Andrew." British Prime Minister William Gladstone called him an "example" for the wealthy. Such terms seldom apply to multimillionaires. But Andrew Carnegie was no run-of-the-mill steel magnate. At age 13 and full of dreams, he sailed from his native Dunfermline, Scotland, to America. Here, in one volume, are two impressive works by Andrew Carnegie himself: his autobiography and The Gospel of Wealth, a groundbreaking manifesto on the duty of the wealthy to give back to society all of their fortunes.

Historia
The book draws its inspiration from stoicism, the ancient Greek philosophy of enduring pain or adversity with perseverance and resilience. Stoics focus on the things they can control, let go of everything else, and turn every new obstacle into an opportunity to get better, stronger, tougher. As Marcus Aurelius put it nearly 2000 years ago: “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”
