So, it's alright. The story is interesting at times, funny at times; speaking as someone who has experiences in this part of Africa, I would have loved to hear more about the people living there, customs, adventures into town, etc) as opposed to the repeated discussion of the tension with the mean staff lady, and Gwynn's pet cat. Over and over, adding nothing. THE WORST PART OF ALL, however, is the female narrator (she does about half the narration)!! She annunciates as if words do not belong in sentences together, speaking each word completely independently of the next, with inflections that suggest she doesn't know the meaning of what she is saying. The worst way in which this flops is that the book is supposed to be light-hearted, even funny - but it is inconceivable that the person saying the lines could be anything approaching fun. It makes the female character unbelievable (and unlikable). Her voice would be fitting for a nun - the nunniest of nuns - slapping a child's wrists with a ruler. It makes absolutely no sense for the characterization of someone who would take off to live in the African bush. My way to deal with this has been to speed up the playback during her parts. The male narrator is natural and funny and you can imagine the actual person in the story (and thus CANNOT imagine the lady narrator as his actual wife!)

effective. conversations are a little boring but you WILL learn simple words and sentences. i get frustrated with ones that just demonstrate some phrases and then moves on. this one takes you through the repetition you need and the back and forth with another speaker.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

People who know no or very very little spanish and are very slow learners

What was most disappointing about Mark Frobose’s story?

The content is SO BORING, and they spend 70 minutes going over a 1 minute conversation! Conversational Spanish is supposed to be for when you've taken years of vocab and grammar, and now want to use it. This can only be for people who know no Spanish, no one needs to repeat 5 sentences for OVER an hour. Also they do too much listening, I want to spend 1/2 of the time talking (responding or repeating) in order to learn

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Nasal voice, very slow.
