Historia
This is the story of how a nerdy, homeschooled kid in the church choir named John Stephens became the Grammy-winning, platinum-selling, genre-pushing pop star we know as John Legend. For a long time, he led a double life—excelling as a star student while his home life was in shambles, working in corporate America as a financial consultant while moonlighting as a musician in nightclubs, always straddling a line between the person he was and the person he wanted to be. These are his Words + Music.

Not impressed
Revisado: 01-22-25
The artists liberal social views distract from his talent. Disappointing to this listener. I wish it were more about the music and less about the politics.

Historia
As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was fourteen, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than twenty years of activism.

I was a fan of the band for a time
Revisado: 01-31-23
The audio is well recorded and performed.
I love Paul's ability to weave in his Christian faith, although the band lost me when they favored infanticide in Ireland coming out to stand with anti-life pro-abortion forces. That said, there can always be another chapter!

Historia
In this stirring audiobook, David McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence, when the whole American cause was riding on their success, without which all hope for independence would have been dashed and the noble ideals of the Declaration would have amounted to little more than words on paper.

Historia
The New York Times best-selling biography of an American comedy legend. After three years of sobriety, Chris Farley's life was at its creative peak until a string of professional disappointments chased him back to drugs and alcohol. He fought hard against them, but it was a fight he would lose in December 1997. Farley's fans immediately drew parallels between his death and that of his idol, John Belushi. Without looking deeper, however, many failed to see that Farley was much more than just another Hollywood drug overdose. In this officially authorized oral history, Farley's friends and family remember his work and life.

Content Trumps Production Value
Revisado: 02-08-22
As a firmer audiobook producer I can say this. content is king. the tragic death of Chris Farley and his struggles with addiction and obsessive compulsiveness is an important story. Rather than wrap it in prose, the author has chosen to let those who knew him speak truth to the powers and principalities bringing about this famed comedian and devout man of faith's demise. A tragedy? Yes, without question. But in the words of author Graham Greene as echoed in the classic tragedy repeated here in the life of Chris Farley, "The best of a bad job is all any of us make it."
In Catholic sensibilities, Chris, no doubt, has a bit of purgatory to endure, but if the testimony of many here is to be believed, he too will enjoy the grace of Divine mercy. His was a inner life of innocence suffering, sin overwhelming. In the end, may mercy and grace which had a foothold in his life, overcome.

Historia
In 2009, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed at the Super Bowl's halftime show. The experience was so exhilarating that Bruce decided to write about it. That's how this extraordinary autobiography began. Over the past seven years, Bruce Springsteen has privately devoted himself to writing the story of his life, bringing to this audio the same honesty, humor, and originality found in his songs.

For the fan, for the faithful
Revisado: 12-30-21
While not a fanatic, I have always appreciated Bruce Springsteen and the E-street bands contribution to the collective pop consciousness. A believer in higher realities beyond the pale of day to day existence, I sense a touch of grace and the divine as Bruce weaves his story. Not in the sense of the sacarin story of a saint, but in the grit and realism of a pilgrim on the journey.
As Bruce enunciated the words of that ancient song and prayer, first enunciated by a poor carpenter's son in a distant land, I was brought to tears. We are brothers in the journey, Bruce. This nameless and faceless reviewer has heard your song. We am not alone. We, though strangers are friends. Thank you.

The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

An Epic Tale, Masterly Performed
Revisado: 10-22-21
Having read countless times and seen all attempts to translate the great work of JRR Tolkein, this read among all others may be the most prominent among the rest in it's fidelity to the authors purpose and intent. Andy Serkis presentation of the tale of the Fellowship as a master of both his craft and the text. Tolkien himself would not have been able to reproduce his creation with such skill and passion. A great read presented without match or compare.
