Historia
It happens more than you might think. One second someone’s life is totally typical, the next it’s terribly tragic. Everything they had, everything they planned, everything they were, all of it vanishes in a flash. Shock and sorrow leave the victim staring into tomorrow’s void, wondering: How did it happen? Who did it? And why?

Scooby Doo meets a Lifetime Movie
Revisado: 02-02-24
This was a painful listen as the characters were so YA and angsty. So many logic defying moments I cannot believe an editor signed off on it. Final chapters converge at odd angles pretending to make sense. not recommending to anyone.

I really like how the author tells a story and fills it with engaging characters. and how she always delivers with a climax.

Historia
As the chief forensic anthropologist for the FBI’s Chicago field office, Christine Prusik has worked her fair share of bizarre cases. Yet this one trumps them all: a serial killer is strangling young women and dumping their bodies in the steep, forested ravines of southern Indiana. With each victim, the killer leaves a calling card: a stone figurine carved like the spirit stones found among the native tribes of Papua New Guinea—the same tribes Prusik worked with a decade earlier while doing field research.

Written by AI?
Revisado: 04-30-23
I kept waiting for the story to get some traction, but it never did. It had all the bad plots elements commonplace it today's TV writing...reversing the character development at the last minute for convenience of story, broad generic hints at backstory that become forgotten when they don't support the climax. And all is accepted at the end; these people only did evil things because they had to. But an AI program will write it that way when you ask it to.

Historia
In 2008, a cheerful ambulance-chasing lawyer named Jay Shenk persuades the grieving Keener family to sue a private LA hospital. Their son, Wesley, has been transformed by a routine surgery into a kind of golem, absent all normal functioning or personality, walking in endless empty circles around his hospital room. In 2019, Shenk - still in practice but a shell of his former self - is hired to defend Wesley Keener’s father when he is charged with murder...the murder, as it turns out, of the expert witness from the 2008 hospital case.

why did he bother to write this?
Revisado: 03-24-23
Pretty disappointing as all the twists were predictable and the payoff was freshman fiction first draft. The pacing made me very impatient and I resorted to random skips ahead of 30 seconds with no need to ever backup for a detail. I stuck with it to the end in hopes of finding something enjoyable...but the plot remained a bland salad.

truly awful and amateurish
Revisado: 08-26-22
I almost stopped after the first chapter, instead deciding to ride it out and see how much worse the writing would be...it, and the plotting, are plain awful.
I chose this on sale title as I enjoy thrillers and I have wonderful memories of living in the corn belt. Clearly the author is my opposite! This is not an enjoyable tale or a captivating mystery, the surprise twist at the end is less a twist and more an excuse for meandering chapters of uninteresting observations of people the lead character holds in utter disdain. I could go on pointlessly, but then I would sound like the author.

At first, Logan Ramsay isn’t sure if anything’s different. He just feels a little . . . sharper. Better able to concentrate. Better at multitasking. Reading a bit faster, memorizing better, needing less sleep. But before long, he can’t deny it: Something’s happening to his brain. To his body. He’s starting to see the world, and those around him—even those he loves most—in whole new ways. The truth is, Logan’s genome has been hacked. And there’s a reason he’s been targeted for this upgrade.

Woke Gospels Linked by Weak Storytelling
Revisado: 08-08-22
at no point did I think "I can't wait to see how this finishes"... at many points I wondered if a computer wrote the sections not discussing gene therapy, the characters lacked realism, therefore the story never drew the reader in. as for the woke content; remember when we read books to escape the negatives in everyday life...no getting away from it in this book.
