Historia
For GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton, McAlpine Lodge seems like the ideal getaway to celebrate their honeymoon. Set on a gorgeous, off-the-grid mountaintop property, it’s the perfect place to unplug and reconnect. Until a bone-chilling scream cuts through the night. Mercy McAlpine, the manager of the Lodge, is dead. With a vicious storm raging and the one access road to the property washed out, the murderer must be someone on the mountain. But as Will and Sara investigate the McAlpine family and the other guests, they realize that everyone here is lying.

Narration is Amazing
Revisado: 09-04-24
Karin Slaughter is a gifted writer and the characters in the ‘Will Trent’ series are some of my favorite feel-good fictional friends but the narration by Kathleen Early was truly gripping and life like!

Ok. Predictable
Revisado: 05-25-24
The characters were likable and believe able. The story was predictable and the ending seemed underdeveloped.

Dr. MacDonald was the only redeeming quality in this book.
Revisado: 10-25-22
I love other books by this author but this one just fell flat. Ash is a really difficult character to like and want to hear his thoughts.
The constant graphic assaults seemed to be a substitute for actual story-telling and strong writing or character development. Instead of detectives uncovering clues or leads in their case Ash just beat everyone to a pulp and taught Dr. MacDonald to cover for him. And how many times can one describe the sky as “dirty orange”!?!? I think I counted at least 5x in the book. …. Why???
Dr. Macdonald was truly a beautiful character though, hilarious, lovable, annoying, and so well rounded and not a stock character. I would read this book just to get to know her!
I also want to praise this narrator! He did so many voices and added a lot to this book! The writing (though flat at times) came to life because of this wonderful performance!! So many times as I listened I was in awe of the narration.

Fairly entertaining/ predictable
Revisado: 08-13-22
The writing was ok, but the story was really predictable and there were a lot of characters in the book. The sort that would do well with a character “cheat sheet” in the front of it. Sadly the protagonist in the story fell just a bit flat for me, I was hoping for a bit more depth I guess. Not a bad book to have on while cleaning or doing other tasks.

This book is saved by the narrator
Revisado: 12-16-21
I expect little of the free mystery books, I listen to them to pass my time at work or emptying the dishwasher. This was as predictable as a metronome, and had the depth of a camel’s piss. The characters are undeveloped and flat. The thing is this book isn’t terrible or horrible it is just meh, forgettable and mediocre.
The narrator breathed life into an otherwise lifeless pile of words.

I can be a stickler for books as I am a writer myself. But this book is so well written, the characters so real and fallibly love able I could not set this book side! It really isn’t my usual genre to read but I really loved this book!

Beautifully written mystery
Revisado: 08-05-21
I am a writer myself and a stickler for believable dialogue, character development and I really don’t like crappy writing. This book really had wonderful descriptions and her characters had depth as well as mystery. The performance by the narrators was compelling and absolutely perfect!!! I loved this book so much!
