Historia
Toru Okada's cat has disappeared, and this has unsettled his wife, who is herself growing more distant every day. Then there are the increasingly explicit telephone calls he has started receiving. As this compelling story unfolds, the tidy suburban realities of Okada's vague and blameless life, spent cooking, reading, listening to jazz and opera and drinking beer at the kitchen table, are turned inside out, and he embarks on a bizarre journey, guided (however obscurely) by a succession of characters, each with a tale to tell.

Long, otherwise interesting
Revisado: 09-21-22
the drawback of 3D characters is length, this book did the thing we want usually, juicy details of everything. But that requires time, and also secondguessing if it was always neccessary. if you can, stick the book out, the twists and turns are gobsmacking!!! Performance was so good, who knew there were so many voices on one body...
the book is interesting overall. i learnt quite a bit about a war time id never knew much about.

Historia
The Republic of Gilead offers Offred only one function: to breed. If she deviates, she will, like dissenters, be hanged at the wall or sent out to die slowly of radiation sickness. But even a repressive state cannot obliterate desire - neither Offred's nor that of the two men on which her future hangs. Brilliantly conceived and executed, this powerful evocation of 21st-century America gives full rein to Margaret Atwood's devastating irony, wit and astute perception.

Historia
Buying into the dream that education is the road out of poverty, a teen mom takes a chance on bettering herself, gets on welfare rolls, and talks her way into college. But once she's there, phallocratic narratives permeate every subject, and creative writing professors depend heavily on Freytag's pyramid to analyze life. So Ariel turns to a rich subcultural canon of resistance and failure, populated by writers like Audre Lorde, Tillie Olsen, and Kathy Acker. Wryly riffing on feminist literary tropes, We Were Witches documents the survival of a demonized single mother.

written for writers, and educating non-writers
Revisado: 08-29-21
I am not a writer, but this is a book has so many stories within this story, however delivered in a manner that ties up so well, and allowed me to be transported right to the moments Ariel described. Much like life, it needn't always make sense to those outside of you. When it does, its magic. That's how I felt while listening to this. There are many writers and poets Ariel mentioned that I feel I need to learn about, understand their style and philosophy, and their personal stories too. I'm going to be circling back to this book often I feel.
I feel educationally more rich having heard this book, I feel my world has gotten a bit bigger, with additions of all these powerful womens narratives along with Ariel's.

Historia
One afternoon, a mother opens her front door to find the length of her son's body stretched out on the veranda, swaddled in akwete material, his head on her welcome mat. The Death of Vivek Oji transports us to the day of Vivek's birth, the day his grandmother Ahunna died. It is the story of an over protective mother and a distant father and the heart-wrenching tale of one family's struggle to understand their child, just as Vivek learns to recognise himself.
