Teddi Overman found her life’s passion in turning other people’s castoffs into beautifully restored antiques. Leaving her hardscrabble Kentucky childhood behind, Teddi opens her own store in Charleston. She builds a life as unexpected and quirky as her many customers, but nothing alleviates the haunting uncertainty she’s felt since her brother Josh mysteriously disappeared. When signs emerge that Josh might still be alive, Teddi returns to Kentucky, embarking on a journey that could help her come to terms with her shattered family - and find herself.

Worthy followup to Saving CeeCee Honeycutt
Revisado: 05-19-18
I was sad to finish this book. It was a pleasure to read. The characters were well developed and likable. The plot was interesting and moved along at a good pace. There were laugh out loud moments mixed in with sadder elements of the story. The love in the characters' hearts was palpable. Advice from Teddi's grandmother gave me pause to consider how wise she was. From the first chapter to the last- the book was well developed and full of people we'd like to know.

Historia
The Spanish House is a mixture of designs, Georgian, Gothic and Moorish, as if whoever started it had simply got bored. It has long been known as an architectural folly to locals, and is now nearly derelict to boot. When its reclusive owner dies intestate, the Spanish House is left to his city-dwelling niece. For Isabel, recently widowed, the house is a potential lifeline - the only hope she has of providing for her two children without having to sell her most treasured possession.

Big disappointment
Revisado: 05-19-18
Jojo Moyes is one of my favorite authors. I've read just about everything she's written.
My usual rating of her novels is 4 or 5 stars. This book was a real let down.I stayed with it until the end- hoping it would get better, but it didn't.
There were too many characters and it was hard to keep them straight. The plot seemed pretty thin and there were too many extraneous forks along the way.

As close as sisters for 20 years, Sarah and Lauren have been together through high school and college, first jobs and first loves, the uncertainties of their 20s and the realities of their 30s. Sarah, the only child of a prominent intellectual and a socialite, works at a charity and is methodically planning her wedding. Lauren - beautiful, independent, and unpredictable - is single and working in publishing, deflecting her parents' worries and questions about her life and future by trying not to think about them herself.

Very Disappointing
Revisado: 07-19-16
What disappointed you about Rich and Pretty?
I should have heeded previous reviews of this book. It was very boring
What do you think your next listen will be?
Kirsten Power's book "The silencing:How the Left is Killing Free Speech"
Would you be willing to try another one of Julie McKay’s performances?
No. Her voice was very flat. No enthusiasm
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
None. It could have been an interesting story about childhood friendships developing into adult ones, but the details the author concentrated on were very trivial and uninteresting.

This transcendent story follows four college friends who move to New York City, buoyed by ambition: Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, an artist; Malcolm, an architect; and, at the center, Jude, a withdrawn, brilliant attorney haunted by an unspeakable past. Through decades of shared and separate lives, Jude’s suffering - and its impact on those who love him - raises questions about the limits of human endurance, the possibility for redemption, and the meaning of friendship.

Beautiful but Tragically Sad
Revisado: 01-11-16
Would you consider the audio edition of A Little Life to be better than the print version?
The audio edition was very good. Narrator was excellent. Can't compare to print version
What other book might you compare A Little Life to and why?
I can't compare it to anything I've ever read
Which scene was your favorite?
my favorite scenes were with Willem and Jude when they were together
Any additional comments?
I was warned by previous reviewers about how very sad this book was... it was devastating. That said- I read it and loved it. All the characters were beautifully developed and the friendships were inspirational and sacred. I Don't think I'll recommend the book to my friends though- as it was brutally sad and very depressing. The narrator did a wonderful job with the different voices of the characters he and had just the right tone for such a tragic tale.

What disappointed you about Autumn Duchess?
The plot of the story was too far fetched. The vision of a grandmother, even a beautiful one, and a gorgeous rich man 10 years her junior in a torrid love affair did not engage me.

The narrator was excellent

Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I thought the material was very interesting, but it was too detailed. A history buff or a student of Hamilton would probably enjoy all the information
Has Alexander Hamilton turned you off from other books in this genre?
Hamilton was an extremely interesting and talented man. I learned a lot about the founding fathers and enjoyed many of the details about their relationships.
What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Scott Brick was a good narrator. He was easy to listen to.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Alexander Hamilton?
I'd cut the book in half. 30+ hours of the book is too long

Historia
Pat Conroy's father, Donald Patrick Conroy, was a towering figure in his son's life. The Marine Corps fighter pilot was often brutal, cruel, and violent; as Pat says, "I hated my father long before I knew there was an English word for 'hate.'" As the oldest of seven children who were dragged from military base to military base across the South, Pat bore witness to the toll his father's behavior took on his siblings, and especially on his mother, Peg. She was Pat's lifeline to a better world - that of books and culture.

Conroy at his best
Revisado: 12-05-13
Would you consider the audio edition of The Death of Santini to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version, so I can't compare, but the audio version was excellent. The dialogue between the family members was extremely well performed by Dick Hill and at times, I laughed out loud.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Death of Santini?
The conversations between the parents and the siblings were at times funny and at times shocking, but always entertaining.
Have you listened to any of Dick Hill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Its the first book of Hill's that I have listened to, but I don't think it will be the last. Pat Conroy read the preface only, and at first I was disappointed he didn't read the book. Now I see why he didn't. There was a wonderful variety of "voices" that only a professional like Dick Hill could have delivered with such perfection. Many times I totally forgot that Pat Conroy was not reading, because Hill did such a wonderful job capturing the sarcasm, bitterness, pain and love in the voices.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. Every free minute, I was plugged in and was sorry when it was over.
Any additional comments?
Its an amazing testimony to the power of forgiveness and love that Don Conroy was loved and mourned by so many people. It was also interesting, though not surprising to learn that Pat Conroy was similar to his father in many ways, minus the physical abuse to his loved ones. It was a fascinating followup to The Great Santini.

Too much hostage negotiation
Revisado: 12-02-13
Would you try another book from Nora Roberts and/or Susan Ericksen?
I've read many books by Nora Roberts and have enjoyed all of them up until this book.
I'm also a big fan of Susan Eriksen. I think I'd review the plot description more carefully before I buy another one of her novels.
Has High Noon turned you off from other books in this genre?
possibly. I don't generally like police drama and this had way too much of it.
What three words best describe Susan Ericksen’s performance?
She's good, but there were times I wasn't sure who was talking during the dialog.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I liked Duncan- but he was too good to be believable
Any additional comments?
This is the first Nora Roberts book I've ever not enjoyed, and I've read many of them. I'm also a big fan of Susan Ericksen as a narrator. I found this book boring and fast forwarded through much of it.

One night was all it took, and I forgot everything and anything except the sexy fighter in the ring who sets my mind ablaze and my body on fire with wanting. Remington Tate is the strongest, most confusing man I've ever met in my life. He's the star of the dangerous underground fighting circuit, and I'm drawn to him as I've never been drawn to anything in my life. I forget who I am, what I want, with just one look from him. When he's near, I need to remind myself that I am strong - but he is stronger.

very disappointing
Revisado: 11-15-13
What would have made Real better?
After all the glowing reports I read for this book, I was surprised that I found this book so tedious. Most of the book was badly written foreplay, very trite and overused descriptions. The plot was ridiculous, with very little action squeezed between sexual encounters.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Won't be anything by this author
How could the performance have been better?
no easy fix for this book
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
This book bored me.
