Great story and great story-telling!!

I loved this book!! I have been in the online dating trenches as a 60+ woman and Susan Tan’s story rings very true for me. The story is told through interviews/phone calls with her daughter as she steps out into the world of online dating. We hear the good, bad and ugly about online dating and relationships told in an earnest, open and honest way. Susan’s story resonated with my own experiences and I felt I had a comrade in those dating trenches.

Historia
Imagine a young doctor, trained in the latest medical knowledge and state-of-the-art equipment, suddenly transported back to one of the world’s most isolated and unforgiving environments - Nome, Alaska. That’s what happen to Dr. Sims. His plans to become a pediatric surgeon were drastically changed when, on the eve of being drafted into the army to serve as a MASH surgeon in Vietnam, he was offered a commission in the US Public Health for assignment in Anchorage, Alaska, where he was scheduled to act as chief of pediatrics at the Alaska Native Medical Center.

Really enjoyed this book. I lived in Nome for 3 years in the mid-nineties. A lot had progressed medically by the time I lived there. The internet arrived in Nome about the same time I did and has changed rural Alaska communications quite a bit. I loved hearing the Native Alaskan accents as portrayed in the book by the excellent reader. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

I loved this story. And I really loved the presentation with the music and the conversations acted out. The land and the people came alive in this Audible presentation. I lived in Kotzebue for six years and listening to the voices, the Inupiaq language, the Native way of speaking and thinking, was like going home for a long overdue visit. No matter what anyone feels about the existence of Inukins, they certainly come to life in the skillful storytelling of Mr. Dommek. I look forward to more stories from James Dommek, Jr.

Historia
When Christina Haag was growing up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, John F. Kennedy, Jr., was just one of the boys in her circle of prep-school friends. A decade later, after they had both graduated from Brown University and were living in New York City, Christina and John were cast in an off-Broadway play together. It was then that John confessed his long-standing crush on her, and they embarked on a five-year love affair.

Thoroughly enjoyed Come to the Edge

I recently downloaded this book on Audible. I loved it. I confess that my intention for buying the book was for some gossipy tidbits about JFK, Jr. I had been an avid People subscriber for most of his adult years and had feasted on information about him (how many times was he on the cover??).
The book didn’t disappoint in the area of heretofore unknown information about John. But...what fascinated me most was Christina’s story, her life, while alongside John. How does the girlfriend of a celebrity gain and maintain a private, authentic life while in the actual and reflected glare of the famous person’s life? This was the gold in this book. Christina was a girlfriend who had her own goals and aspirations that sometimes were in sync with John’s and sometimes not, both directionally and geographically. It must be as challenging to be with a famous person as it is to regretfully let go of a relationship with them. Christina’s story is as interesting and intriguing as John’s. I got the sense that the beauty of their relationship wasn’t the galas, the photo shoot worthy events they attended together, but the times sitting on the grass somewhere anonymously, discussing poetry, theater or art. I loved hearing the book on tape because it was read by the author so I could pretend she was on my couch, recounting her story just for me.
