Why is everyone ignoring the inappropriate relationship?

I was really into this series, then the inappropriate relationship between the gaurdian and the novice happened. The age difference and abuse of power turned my stomach and ruined what would have otherwise been an enjoyable read. Shame on the author. I hope the sad ending everyone is talking about is the gaurdian dying. I can't believe only one other reviewer has mentioned this issue.
