Historia
The city of Celum is not much like Liscor at all. While Erin is surrounded by familiar, human faces, she’s far from home and without her inn. At the same time, a certain ill-tempered Lyonette is squatting in Erin’s inn, and Goblins are on the move. The Goblin Lord’s threat reaches across the entire region, and the Redfang tribe has rallied against him with the Floodplains tribe, although their Chieftains do not agree on some crucial matters. This winter, there is only snow, Goblins, magic, and iambic pentameter.

Achingly Slow
Revisado: 01-31-25
This is the last Wandering Inn book I'm doing for a while. It wanders, for sure, everywhere but at the Inn and it's very, very, very slow. HOURS of side plots and no real hint of how they connect. I know as I get to the end, it'll come together but I'm still 7hrs away and convincing myself that it's worth that amount of my life is getting tough. This author just really needed an editor - or a better one? I don't know. I loved the first book and enjoyed book two. But this isn't like HP where you are so invested in the characters that you stick it out. 3/4 of this book is spent on imagining how a (basically evil) skeleton might think. It's a case of success unrestrained and turned into stream of consciousness. I think I might have to pass on book #4.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

omg sooooo bad
Revisado: 01-05-24
Melodramatic, predictable, juvenile. The epitome of mass market fiction. I rolled my eyes at least 10x in the first 3hrs. It's not worth it. I am returning the book.

Deadly storms have ravaged Mina’s homeland for generations. Floods sweep away entire villages, while bloody wars are waged over the few remaining resources. Her people believe the Sea God, once their protector, now curses them with death and despair. In an attempt to appease him, each year a beautiful maiden is thrown into the sea to serve as the Sea God’s bride, in the hopes that one day the “true bride” will be chosen and end the suffering.

Historia
In a sprawling mansion filled with peculiar treasures, January Scaller is a curiosity herself. As the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke, she feels little different from the artifacts that decorate the halls: carefully maintained, largely ignored, and utterly out of place. Then she finds a strange book. A book that carries the scent of other worlds and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure, and danger. Each page turn reveals impossible truths about the world, and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own.

lovely and unusual
Revisado: 10-02-23
It starts a bit slow but builds and is beautifully written. the narrator does a lovely job. The story is unique and refreshing. Not your same old rushed sensational. You get to know the characters. There are surprises and thrills. There isn't a lot of world hopping, as you might expect from the description. The story follows the young girl as she grows and alternately tells her parents' story, but it's almost entiry set in our world. Still, it is lovely.

Excellent Series; Narrator grew on me
Revisado: 07-27-23
Again, wonderful installment to follow the first book. Really can't say enough. This series deserves more attention than it has gotten. I'm writing this after listening to book 3. I've listened to hundreds, but this is my first set of reviews, I think they deserve it so much. As I noted in my review of book 1 with more detail, I didn't prefer the narrator. But the story is so good, and she grew on me after time. While her diction and cadence leave a lot to be desired, her male and female voices were well done and convincing between characters. Overall, highly recommend all 3 books in this series.

Historia
Imagine a London where magic is real...real, but feared. This is Eliza Braxton's London, and she has always accepted her place in it gladly. As one of the Riftborn, her magic has relegated her to the servant class, where she dutifully serves as the lady's maid in one of the most powerful households in the country. There, she uses her remarkable powers of persuasion to keep Elder Hallewell's rebellious daughter in the path to an arranged match of power and prosperity. Eliza has never questioned her loyalty...until now.

Excellently Written; Keep going! Ignore the Narr.
Revisado: 07-27-23
Loved everything about this book: the characters, the unique original story, the mystery, but most of all the amazing writing. I would love to read it on the page to savor the word choices and turns of phrase. I listened to the entire series and it does not disappoint. My only complaint was the narrator's pronunciation and diction. She says the chapter numbers like she's seducing someone, which is utterly unnecessary, given that this is not at all that kind of book. She also has a very odd cadence, pausing, rising, and diminishing at very odd times and in odd ways. Lastly, while her pronunciation is extremely crisp, it's often TOO crisp. She almost adds extra sounds to the ends of the stop letters. It really threw me off at first and I almost stopped listening to this book. But I am SO glad I did not. Soon I was too hooked by the writing and the story and sailed straight on through to book 3.

Historia
After her narrow escape at the burning of Bedlam, Eliza Braxton's world has been turned upside down. The Illustratum's hold on the Riftborn is slipping, but so is Eliza's fragile hold on who she is. She is left facing a terrifying choice; continue her role as spy in the powerful Hallewell household, or join in open rebellion against the Illustratum. All her life, Eliza has been cautious, but now that her eyes are open, it is clear that the time has come to throw caution to the wind and embrace the power that has kept her repressed since childhood.

Uncompelling, Laboriously Slow
Revisado: 02-01-23
I listen to many long, slow audio books. The idea is nice but the execution is not. I just couldn't get through this one. I'm almost at the end of the book but nothing very interesting has happened yet and anything that has happened to so long to get there between unnecessary details that it rang hope. It will be one of only 3 returns I've made in my long audible history.
