The official story is BIZARRE and left me with a lot of questions. So glad this podcast covered it! I’m terrified that this type of shenanigan will happen here in the US.

Michael Pollan narrates this book in a way nobody besides the author could do. Extremely listenable. The book is a godsend to the current renaissance of psychedelics, the author has done so much to contribute to the legitimacy of psychedelics. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone curious about the psychedelics, not just people who have experienced them or plan to experience them. My hope is that this book will inspire more books like it in the years to come. This book will go down in history as the tipping point when psychedelics became more acceptable, and eventually legal. Denver legalized mushrooms last week! We will all look back on psychedelic prohibition like people today look back on the prohibition of alcohol. More people taking psychedelics means a smarter, kinder, and more compassionate world, and I’m all for it! Check out this book and you’ll want to have a psychedelic experience for yourself, and you really should!

Great book! Part history book, part chemistry book. The first half is about alchemical history and the second half explains how alchemy turned into chemistry.

Short book, 90 minutes or about 150 short pages. Lots of very interesting information about this time period in France. A little bit too much about Aleister Crowley for my tastes. But overall a very enlightening book, especially the parts about Fulcanelli and his protege Eugene Cansiliet. This book claims that the manuscript for Fulcanelli’s “Mysteries of the Catherdrals” was a stolen manuscript and not meant to be published, much like the original Rosicrucian manifesto, “Fama Fraternitatis”. Some of the depictions of tantric sexual practice in this book are a little bit graphic, I’m not used to reading about such graphic details in books with “Rosicrucian” and “Alchemy” in the title, but these descriptions do help to give a general understanding of the different practices at this time and place. The lengthy description of different “schisms” within the various groups is also something not often found in books with similar titles, and perhaps somewhat unneeded. I would give this book 4.0 out of 5 stars for the reasons mentioned above. I purchased a paper copy for my library as well as this audible version. The narrator is especially good at pronouncing the endless list of French names in this book, and I find it quite helpful to have all these French names pronounced for me! The narration gets 5 out of 5 stars. And the Audible app gets 5 stars for making this somewhat rare book a part of their library of available titles!

Five stars! The most important book in the history of understanding addiction! Wonderfully narrated and so easy to listen to, this audiobook will help thousands, if not millions, of people suffering from addiction and the family and loved ones of addicts who are struggling to understand addiction! This book is a blessing and a gift to humanity! I can't begin to describe how much this book has touched my life and helped my sobriety! I really enjoyed holding the hardback book and a highlighter while listening to this book on my headphones, highlighting passages I found relevant and really immersing myself in the book! I've listened to and read this book several times, the amount of information and data presented here is astonishing! Thank you, Audible, for making this book available! And thank you, Maia Szalavitz, this book will be the most important book about addiction of the decade, perhaps the century, I believe it is the most profound book dealing with addiction ever written! Marisa Vitali was a PERFECT choice for a narrator and brings each page alive with her inflection and delivery! I recommend this book to anyone struggling with addiction and anyone ready to accept the reality of addiction and how it effects each individual and our society. The conclusion is wonderful and presents several scientific approaches for freeing oneself from addiction! I can't praise this audiobook enough! Thank you again, Audible!
