Historia
As war swept across Europe in 1940, the idyllic life of Fey von Hassell seemed a world away from the conflict. The daughter of Ulrich von Hassell, Hitler's Ambassador to Italy, her marriage to Italian aristocrat Detalmo Pirzio-Biroli brought with it a castle and an estate in the north of Italy. Beautiful and privileged, Fey and her two young sons lead a tranquil life undisturbed by the trauma and privations of war. But with Fascism approaching its zenith, Fey's peaceful existence is threatened when Ulrich and Detalmo take the brave and difficult decision to resist the Nazis.

Nonfiction that reads like a novel

Fascinating, detailed real history. So compelling, I’ve listened to it twice. Love all Catherine Bailey’s work!

Historia
In the chaotic aftermath of World War II, American college girl Charlie St. Clair is pregnant, unmarried, and on the verge of being thrown out of her very proper family. She's also nursing a desperate hope that her beloved cousin Rose, who disappeared in Nazi-occupied France during the war, might still be alive.

Totally did NOT live up to the reviews
Revisado: 04-03-22
I selected this book based on the number of raving reviews. However I found it very long and not very interesting or moving. I read a lot of books, both fiction and non-fiction, about World War II. This had none of the compelling characters, hardship, or historical background that many do. If you are interested in some thing similar, I highly recommend the Nightingale by Kristin Hannah as an alternative. I will say, however, that the performance is fantastic and as an audible production, it’s great. The story itself is what is lacking.
