Historia
In Rachel Hore's A Place of Secrets, auction house appraiser Jude leaves London for her dream job at Starbrough Hall, an estate in the countryside, examining and pricing the manuscripts and instruments of an eighteenth-century astronomer. She is welcomed by Chantal Wickham and Jude feels close to the old woman at once: they have both lost their husbands. Hard times have forced the Wickham family to sell the astronomer's work, their land and with it, the timeworn tower that lies nearby. The tower was built as an observatory for astronomer Anthony Wickham and his daughter Esther, and it served as the setting for their most incredible discoveries.

hard to finish
Revisado: 08-15-21
The narrator sounded like she should have been an older person. I couldn't connect with anyone. it was slow and plodding. I hate that because the description is right down my alley. I don't think ill read anymore books by Rachel Hire.

Not a favorite Nora Roberts. I didn't connect with the characters and I truly disliked the narrator. A disappointment.

I truly liked this book. I didn't zoom through like I do most books I read but listened carefully to try to catch motives, feelings and characters. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. I loved the characters and their flaws and that end twist just threw me for a loop. Had to listen twice to make sure I heard it correctly. Yep, I certainly did.

A gripping and emotional novel that will leave you wondering about the neighbors next door...On a cold January night, Sharon Lemke heads outside to see a lunar eclipse when she notices something odd at the house behind her backyard. Through her neighbor's kitchen window, she sees what appears to be a little girl washing dishes late at night. Loved this book
Revisado: 04-18-21
This book was long but never boring. I loved the story line, the characters and the ghost happenings. I usually don't like sound effects but in this book they were done at appropriate times, never too loud and always made sense. They definitely had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up at times. What a great, spooky and fun book. It will be one I re-read.

Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

What an amazing book.
Revisado: 02-09-21
This book was phenomenal. The narration was perfect. The story will pick you up and hold you in a new understanding of the Great Depression, The Dust Bowl and what the migrants who left their homes out of desperation and ended up in more desperate times felt and lived. It's a wonderful story of doubt, fear, hopelessness and bravery that will move you to tears. I recommend it highly.

For a ghost story I find this book pretty good. I've been disappointed in so many ghost stories lately it was refreshing to understand the characters and enjoy the story. It held my interest and gave me chills at times. I'd recommend it.

It’s sweltering in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Temperance Brennan, still recovering from neurosurgery following an aneurysm, is battling nightmares, migraines, and what she thinks might be hallucinations when she receives a series of mysterious text messages, each containing a new picture of a corpse that is missing its face and hands. Immediately, she’s anxious to know who the dead man is, and why the images were sent to her. An identified corpse soon turns up, only partly answering her questions.

Disappointed for Reichs
Revisado: 12-13-20
Not anywhere as good as most Temperance Brennan books. Hope the next one doesn't disappoint. It's difficult to explain my (almost) dislike of the book. Not as personal as the others? Characters not as engaging or honest? Just many things, I suppose that make it a disappointment.
