RE-treaded and unimaginative
Revisado: 02-19-25
The characters are cliched. And the tone is often overly woke. The most politically correct and sensitive cops ever written. With a completely unlikable central character who goes around harassing people under the guise of criminal investigation. The plot is simplistic and dull.

Historia
Back in the summer of 1988, a young Richard Chizmar was catapulted into the center of a living nightmare as the serial killer Joshua Gallagher—dubbed by the media as “The Boogeyman”—stalked his tranquil Maryland town. A lot has changed in the intervening years. These days, Chizmar enjoys a certain level of celebrity and notoriety himself, being the only person that an incarcerated Josh Gallagher will speak to on or off the record.

A story about Nothing
Revisado: 09-14-24
Nothing happens. Referencing the previous book, which was merely mediocre, as if it were a classic, is ludicrous.
Trying to tell a murder mystery from an alternate point of view, good idea perhaps, but the execution fails miserably. You’re just left with a narrator who talks about the past “previous “ story which is dramatically not interesting. Very few things happen in the present that are of interest and the things that do happen are repetitive and predictable and don’t drive the story forward interestingly. All very tepid and lackluster.
Also, the narrator’s vocal cadence doesn’t help build any tension or suspense.

CONFEDERATE SYMPATHIES
Revisado: 03-28-24
First and foremost, this book is not scary. It should not be in the ‘horror’ category. It pretends to be, unfortunately it is a poorly veiled attempt at the genre by a confederate sympathizer. I wish i had been warned and am disgusted and disappointed that Audible has this book on offer.

Historia
Los Angeles is a city of sunlight, celebrity, and possibility. The L.A. often experienced by Homicide Lt. Detective Milo Sturgis and psychologist Alex Delaware, is a city of the dead. Early one morning, the two of them find themselves in a neighborhood of pretty houses, pretty cars, and pretty people. The scene they encounter is anything but. A naked young man lies dead in the street, the apparent victim of a collision with a moving van hurtling through suburbia in the darkness. But any thoughts of accidental death vanish when a blood trail leads to a nearby home.

ABSOLUTELY DULL
Revisado: 03-04-22
This book is categorized under Mystery, Thriller & Suspense……. Unfortunately, it’s none of those things. I kept waiting for the story those qualities to kick in but they never do. There’s zero dramatic tension or conflict. The whole story seems to be prologue and never kicks off.
Performance was very well done.
I just kept waiting for something interesting to happen but it truly never does.

Distracting performance

The accents used were bizarrely executed to the point of distraction.
Also there were several mispronounced words.

Historia
Billy Todd has always been different. Most people called him odd, and those were the nice people. Though he was born with a learning disability, Billy's parents never allowed him to consider himself disabled. Raised to be self-sufficient, Billy might not be as smart as some, but he was a lot smarter than people realized.

Embarrassing
Revisado: 01-06-20
If you’re producing a book that contains numerous phrases in a foreign language, make sure the actor is able to speak that language or have someone teach the performer proper pronunciations. It is NOT THAT DIFFICULT. This, however, was shameful and completely unacceptable. It ruins the atmosphere the author has created. This author and novel are one of the 20th century’s greatest and this performance has dishonored and spat upon it.
Come on guys, take some pride in what you do.

What would have made Touch Me Gently better?
ONe of the worst books i've ever read (or listened to. Over simplistic and juvenile depiction of a shattered, abused soul. Feels as though the author has no insight into people at all, except what she may have deduced from watching daytime television. No insight into the male psyche at all. Or the gay male as well. It's actually insulting. She trivializes the people she attempted to created. It was painful to listen to, predictable beyond belief, and a complete waste of time.
Has Touch Me Gently turned you off from other books in this genre?
Almost
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
