When the body of a church warden is discovered, DI Tom Janssen and his team must investigate the circumstances that led to his death. Whilst navigating the fallout from the conclusion of their previous case, the Norfolk CID team is under intense scrutiny with another police force investigating their recent conduct. Story was ok, backstory was weak
Revisado: 05-07-25
This book was OK. The storyline was OK —adequate detective story. However, it was not much backstory. For example, what’s happening in the lives of the chief inspector or the sergeant or his boss which you started in the previous series, but didn’t talk about much in this story. that would’ve added to the storyline

Quality storyline
Revisado: 12-29-23
Best Stone Barrington book in the last 15 books. Quite frankly, the storylines are getting pretty boring. This one was good. It was exciting to the end. Well done.

Historia
Detective Sergeant Kathleen Doyle was investigating a tip she’d received about doctors who were being assaulted at a London free clinic, but - strangely enough - none of the volunteers was willing to give her a statement. Instead, her only witness offered a fanciful tale about supernatural evildoers - which was nonsense, of course; it was clearly an attempt to shift the blame to the appropriate cultural bogeyman.

Historia
First-year detective Kathleen Doyle is a plucky Irish redhead of humble origins and modest means. Chief Inspector Michael Acton is her antithesis: a British lord turned cop. He's tall, handsome, and enigmatic - to a fault. He also has a knack for solving London's most high-profile crimes. Acton selects Doyle out of the newbie squad to partner with him on a series of investigations because she always knows when someone is lying - a trait that comes in handy when interviewing suspects and witnesses.

Historia
Mark Randall lay dead in a field near Lowacre long before Smith had done what he had to do in Belfast. By the time he went back to work, the investigation was well underway. "It's not my case," he says more than once, and he really doesn't need it to be; he has enough to think about as it is. But going around the Norfolk countryside dotting the i's and crossing the t's, speaking to the local farmers and the Brothers of St. Francis from Abbeyfields, Smith begins to suspect that the investigation might be heading in entirely the wrong direction.

Historia
"And see if there's any news about the missing girl." Life, as Smith used to say, is just one thing after another - as one investigation ends, a new one begins. But for reasons unknown to the rest of her team, DCI Cara Freeman will be haunted by the next case for the Kings Lake Central murder squad. They find themselves delving into the seamy side of life in the town, and one of their number will have departed before this new investigation is over. Perhaps Detective Sergeant Chris Waters should have seen it coming, but he has a lot more than work on his mind these days.

Excellent story with surprising ending
Revisado: 03-19-22
I was skeptical of this series without the foundational character, DC Smith. However, the writer has given us new and interesting characters in his absence. Well written and compelling, this new team picks up and moves the King’s Lake team forward without missing a beat.

Absolutely the worse Stone B book ever!
Revisado: 03-17-21
I own every Stone Barrington book--I know the character and storyline. This was the worse story told. It feels like the author just mailed this in to get a check. The story was crap and predictable. Stone meets a girl, sex then she follows him throughout the story. Poor character development. The visits to England seem to be perfunctory so the author can show what he knows about flying a jet. And the ending was terrible, over-the-top, and unrealistic. Don't waste your time on this one.
