Connie's mother asks her to sell an abandoned house once owned by her grandmother in Salem, Mass. Relunctantly, Connie moves to the small town and inhabits the crumbling, ancient house, trying to restore it to a semblance of order. Curious things start to happen when Connie finds the name "Deliverance Dane" on a yellowed scrap of paper and begins to have visions of a long ago woman condemned for practicing "physick," or herbal healing, on her neighbors in 1690s Salem.

I love the integration of history and late 20th century New England. Very atmospheric. The narrator was not my favorite but she did grow on me as I got further into the story. Highly recommend this book, both in print and here on Audible

The Best Kind of Ghost Story

I have been a fan of Katherine Howe since June 2009 when I first discovered The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane. I have followed all her work and love her voice and the way her brain works. I did read this book when it came out, but have found that Audible gives me a different feeling to books I have previously read. I loved the two narrators, who did a better job of capturing the characters than my mind had done in reading it. So glad I made this purchase

The performance undermines the story

The young women reading this has an obnoxious, cloying voice. She lacks the ability to adjust to read in the voice of other characters. Wish I had not purchased this as it is a headache....
