Best book for understanding men and the human condition
Revisado: 03-10-24
The content is phenomenal. Accurate and understandable insight about what forms modern men into what they are.
The narrator used a nightly news anchor voice and inflection that did not pair well with the content.

Excellent read for enneagram students
Revisado: 10-02-23
I’ve ready several books by the author before this one , and many books on the enneagram. Scott Allenders teaching style on the enneagram stands out from the crowd. Very applicable and clear teaching. This book will be a blessing to yourself and those who work and live with you as well.

Falling Upward

Historia
In the first half of life, we are naturally preoccupied with establishing ourselves; climbing, achieving, and performing. But as we grow older and encounter challenges and mistakes, we need to see ourselves in a different and more life-giving way. This message of falling down - that is in fact moving upward - is the most resisted and counterintuitive of messages in the world's religions. Falling Upward offers a new paradigm for understanding one of the most profound of life's mysteries: how those who have fallen down are the only ones who understand "up".

Not what I expected
Revisado: 01-22-22
I only know the name Richard Rohr from reading psychology books on personalities and following Enneagram podcasts over the last 3-4 years. I had high hopes of reading a work by someone who was both a Christian and Enneagram teacher.
Now I know he can’t help his voice, but his delivery is so dry with the only infliction used as a way to scorn the listener, proving just how wrong all people are in their feelings and beliefs. He came across as having a superior enlightenment that allowed him to judge everyone before and currently in the world.
What bothered me the most though was the way he refereed to and quoted scripture as if it were poetry. Merely fictional stories to support his belief. In this writing at least, I never heard him acknowledge the grace & mercy of God. Jesus was just a good man, not a loving sacrifice and propitiation for the sins of the world. He is the most Universalist clergy man I have ever personally listened to. That left me feeling sad for his trust in the world and of mysticism rather than trusting Jesus as the only true way to the father.
I am not a Catholic and maybe he resonates more with people with that background. My feelings is he is a Universalist and believes that we can get to the Father through believing good thoughts and merely being inclusive of people.
As far as the content itself goes, it was a very short book that repeated the same themes over and over until it was a much longer book.
Maybe his other writings are better but this one was not impressive at all.

Narrator is horrible

Listening to this computerized voice over was an absolutely horrible experience. I have never been so disappointed. I do not recommend listening to this book. Read the paper version.
