Historia
Burnout. Many women in America have experienced it. What’s expected of women and what it’s really like to be a woman in today’s world are two very different things - and women exhaust themselves trying to close the gap between them. Sisters Emily Nagoski, PhD, and Amelia Nagoski, DMA, are here to help end the cycle of feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. Instead of asking us to ignore the very real obstacles and societal pressures that stand between women and well-being, they explain with compassion and optimism what we’re up against - and teach us how to fight back.

Blames burnout on the Patriarchy
Revisado: 10-26-24
This is one of those woke books that blames burnout on the patriarchy and it would have been better if it was more inclusive of all demographics. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Historia
If You're In My Office, It's Already Too Late. James Sexton knows this. After dealing with over 1000 clients whose marriages have dissolved over everything from an ill-advised threesome with the nanny to the uneven division of carpool duties, he also knows all of the what- not-to-dos for couples who want to build - and consistently work to preserve - a lasting, fulfilling relationship. Described by former clients as a "courtroom gunslinger" and "the sociopath you want on your side", Sexton tells the unvarnished truth about relationships. These usually derive from dishonest communication.

Lessons on how to not take for granted the relationships in your life from a divorce attorney.
Revisado: 08-18-24
This book is meant to help good and ok marriages become better by offering a post mortem analysis of the causes of divorce from the perspective of a divorce attorney. It helped to gain awareness of how easy it is to give in to complacency and we wonder why our relationships are not the same when have changed the energy and attention we invest. I also recommended this book to my friends who are getting a divorce in hopes that they hear the last chapter and choose a path of least harm to their family.

This was a distillation of years of content from his podcast.
Revisado: 09-07-23
I will open by saying that I am not a sales manager but I am trying to take steps to ensure success when that opportunity arises. I am an avid listener of Mikes podcast on sales management and using his “focus on the fundamentals” approach to sales; I have created a imaginary manager where I manage myself asking “what would Mike say”By following the directions of what imaginary Mike’s advise; I hit 172% of my number and had the best performance my territory has ever recorded and my pipeline is strong because I practice targeted prospecting with time blocks dedicated to prospecting and other revenue generating task. As I mentioned; I am not a manager but what I would give to work for a manager that would practice even 80% of the advice found in this book. I really appreciate the advice on slowing down and doing things right. It reminded me of how greatest sales calls often involve methodically asking about implications before jumping into the more exciting and instinctive solutions and offering. “The first time manager: sales” is a distillation of years of podcast material and though I have notes form listening; this was still worth the purchase. I just wished I could get my management to read/listen to this book.

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Not my favorite MG book.
Revisado: 10-16-19
The narration was soft and monotonous at times. There was also background noises and music that made stories feel slightly manipulative and less objective. When I recommend Gladwell to others, I now tell them to start with his other works first.

Historia
In this eye-opening account, Cal Newport debunks the long-held belief that "follow your passion" is good advice. Not only is the cliché flawed - preexisting passions are rare and have little to do with how most people end up loving their work - but it can also be dangerous, leading to anxiety and chronic job hopping. After making his case against passion, Newport sets out on a quest to discover the reality of how people end up loving what they do.

Good but anecdotal
Revisado: 01-16-18
This book offer some good advice and I would certainly recommend it to anyone that has entrepreneurial ambitions.
The contents were quite anecdotal in nature and it would’ve made for a more compelling argument if there were more statistical analysis included. What percentage of start up failures are a result of passionate people with a deficit of experience? What percentage of successful companies where a result of someone following the 10,000 hour rule?

Not his best work
Revisado: 11-16-17
Gitomer has some great material, so I find it a little difficult to give a less than stellar review. However I cannot ignore the great deal of repetition carried over from his red book of sales. There were a few pearls of wisdom and it seem to get better towards the end. I would highly recommend that if you are looking at this book and have not read the Redbook of cells that I would choose that over this.

Historia
In this stunning audiobook, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers" - the best and the brightest, the most famous, and the most successful. He asks the question: What makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: That is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing.

A little anecdotal in sections
Revisado: 03-06-17
I love books that leave me with ideas that I can ponder on and this book did just that. The 3 elements of occupational success and the 10,000 hour rule are two examples found in this book. It was worth a credit. Narration was substandard but not so much as to be distracting from the content.
