Historia
Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

Started out mildly absurd, and got even better
Revisado: 05-03-25
Story-wise:
Pro-level absurdity. Once a prescient was established, it was adhered to; so, believe.
Unique yet believable characters and interpersonal interactions. And some incredible cuteness.
Action. The plot does not stop at here civil service, but has a true chase scene or two or three(it is one of those, I just don't want to spoil anything)
Narration: some spot on deadpan narration of civil servants dealing with bizzarities I could not have imagined before this.

Historia
Agent Isaac Steele has problems. He spends all his splibs on drink and drugs. He has some deep-seated and very much unresolved issues with his parents. And his robotic partner at Greatest Britain’s Department of Clarification, Dr Timothy Stephens, is ruled more by his heart than his hard drive. But all these issues take a back seat when Isaac stumbles upon a case involving the most sensitive information in the cosmos - a Never File, inaccessible to all except those with the highest clearance. He is expressly forbidden to involve himself. So naturally he does.

This isn't my usual genre, but I loved it
I really enjoyed the story and the storytelling. the sound effects were subtle enough to not be distractions.
There was definitely a campy feel, but also real action and emotional connection. It is also kind of dystopian, but not in the way real dystopian fiction is. This is far less 'woe to us all' and more 'well, it is how it is'

Fun. This story is just really fun.

I liked the concept.
I liked that the story took time to establish a normal baseline before starting the core plot.
The characters are really likeable (well, the ones you are suppose to like are) and most of them are dynamic. Even the background characters.
I'm a bit unsure of how much I like "The mysterious system" handling, but it's not bad.
Note: I am a bit of a sucker for a good lit RPG story, so that does color my opinions.

Historia
In the distant past, a time of magic and swordplay, there lived Harold, the mightiest lich of all, a master of arcane sciences, and a challenger of gods. After reaching the pinnacle of his power and finding it surprisingly bland, Harold waged a cataclysmic war against the gods, aiming to shatter the very system that confined him. He took a nap, but he is awake once more.

it's funny. it has great characters. the world is well built. the story is well told. the words word well :)
this story makes me happy kept me entertained. I strongly suspect there is more under the surface, (there definitely is) but it is never approached in a way to break you out of the story.
only bad thing is that the next one isn't ready yet

Surprised by how much I liked this
Revisado: 09-07-24
I was a bit apprehensive about this series as I've already read a good part of the Completionist Chronicles. this book was far enough ahead of Joe's adventures that it the spoilers aren't really a factor.
Also, the whole idea of becoming a wolfman ally generally gives me the ick, but was handled really well.
genuinely enjoyable. Comedy, action, RPG roots, a few surprises along the way. Would definitely recommend.

Historia
To earn his pardon and avoid becoming yet another necromancer statistic, Timmy has to work for the Council. From bandit uprisings to giant sea serpents and ogre invasions, Timmy and the others are there to save the day - sort of. When the dragon egg their resident pyromaniac stole hatches to reveal the world’s cuddliest harbinger of death, Timmy and the others are dragged into a pair of diabolically dangerous missions. Breaking out of one of the world’s most secure prisons was hard enough. Now, they have to break back in to rescue a vampire.

This book has no right to be this good, yet it is
Revisado: 07-21-24
it's like three strongly interconnected stories with distinct plot arcs. I was a bit worried it was going to kind of drag given the length, but the distinct sections prevented that.
It's funny without being absurd. The characters are ridiculous but loveable and surprisingly relatable. A good mix of OP characters and characters that need to be clever.
Definitely read the first two books first. you could come in here, but the rehab is pretty minimal and it would be better if you read them in order.

Revisado: 06-06-24
I love a good litrpg story. they aren't life changing stories, but they are usually really enjoyable, so I expected this to be good.
It was not good. It was awesome. I couldn't wait to get back into it every time I stopped. Hilarious with some action, OP characters who hold back for their own amusement, and some not heavy-handed social commentary.
And the narrators, especially the main narrator, was incredible.

Historia
Humberside City, nestled in the north of Britain, is on fire, and it has taken a few weeks for anyone to really notice. The fire brigade have been doing their best, as have the other emergency services, but whoever is behind the fires has been systematically running them ragged. Whitehall is worried. Something doesn’t add up, so they’ve dispatched a warlock - a former illegal mage, pressed into service of the government to deal with matters of the arcane - to look things over.

The book seemed to be trying very hard to be something it wasn't. I almost didn't finish it, but the second half was a bit better.
there were a few good lines and a few clever bits, but it was mostly pretty irritating.

Historia
In the small town of Xanadu, Wyoming, lies the Menagerie, a top secret facility filled with unicorns, dragons, phoenixes, and other fairy tale creatures. At least, it was a secret - until six griffin cubs escaped. If Logan and Zoe don't get the cubs back fast, the entire Menagerie will be shut down. The race is on and the resulting adventure is only the beginning of a thrilling series that will leave listeners wanting a magical menagerie of their very own.

great story, terrible narrator
Revisado: 05-19-24
If you have the patience to tolerate the narrator, go for it.
The story is really good. Appropriate levels of foreshadowing, misdirection, suspense and humor. Characters are a little shallow, but we'll developed enough to be likeable.
The narrator is awful. I almost quit the book, and definitely will not continue with the series, because of her. she talks painfully slow and includes many pauses. it kind of reminds me of how a preschool teacher would read a picture book to a class

Historia
Gabriel Delling might call himself a professional con artist, but when walking superstitions start trying to bite his face off, his charm is shockingly unhelpful. It turns out living nightmares almost never appreciate a good joke. Together with a succubus who insists on constantly saving his life, Gabe desperately tries to survive a new reality that suddenly features demons, legends, and a giant locust named Dale - all of whom pretty much hate his guts. And when an ancient horror comes hunting for a spirit locked in his head, Gabe finds himself faced with the excruciating choice between death...or becoming some kind of freaking hero.

Good world building, good character development, good story. I'm not sure what was missing to make it really good, but there was something.
Enjoyable enough though.
I'm unsure if I'd pick up a sequel, but it's not out of the question.
