Historia
Unable to catch a break in life or love as she approaches thirty, Charli Thurman sees red lights at every crossroads. And given the Thurman family’s tumultuous history, she knows things will only get worse, unless she can break the cycle and figure out where—and when—it all went wrong. Charli is skeptical when her best friend introduces her to a “soul reader” who specializes in generational trauma. But during family constellation therapy with the guru, Charli experiences an inexplicable memory of terrible violence.

Save yourself, the cheesy drama, and eye rolling!
Revisado: 03-25-25
This book had great potential and yet it blew it all with a protagonist whose choices and behavior were so ludicrous that it became almost unbearable at times to listen to. Do yourself a favor and find a different book to enjoy!

Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Such a rewarding, intelligent, fun, and meaningful read!
Revisado: 03-18-25
This book provides the perfect escape from the general idiocy one expects from romcoms.
Finally, a smart and believable protagonist who behaves in realistic and relatable fashion to her often ironic life (or death?) circumstances.
Impacted by childhood trauma, Phoebe has historically moved through life like a leaf skittering upon a pond’s surface - purposefully avoiding the richness (and vulnerability!) of living deeply.
In her darkest hours, she suddenly finds herself thrust into the midst of an oddly charming wedding extravaganza involving a cast of colorful characters all of whom, just like Phoebe, are living with (and suffering from) life’s challenges, and who ultimately, and via a brilliant storyline, become her tribe.

Wow! This immediately absorbing book neatly shoehorns an intriguing feast of topics and fascinating storyline with compelling characters into a tightly written historical retrospective on the legendary PanAm Airways in the early 1960s.

Historia
Pippa Jones is a fortyish former literary sensation who fears she will be a one-hit wonder. After the follow-up book she was almost done writing, Podlusters, had to be tossed (it ended up sharing a plot and title with superstar author Ella Rankin’s summer blockbuster!), she couldn’t write a thing. Months of staring at a blank page made her confidence vanish like a one-night stand. When she finds out that she has only five days left to finish (or rather, start) or repay an advance she’s already spent, Pippa has a brilliantly original idea.

Total Cliche-Strewn Beach Read
Revisado: 08-17-24
If you’re seeking pure FLUFF with a guaranteed and unrealistic happy ending, here’s a winner.
If you prefer quality writing free of cliches, eye-rolling storylines, and a cast of predictable characters, move on.
If you listen to this story on Audible, prepare to become annoyed almost immediately by the performer’s voice as she switches from character to character, using a range of voices that are almost as bad as the characters themselves - her efforts with the male voices is particularly grating.

Amazing true story about (very) little known history
Revisado: 07-31-24
I thoroughly enjoyed the story, which read very much like inspirational fiction - but shockingly is true. The (slight) downside was the “preachiness” on forgiveness that was too heavily peppered throughout the story.

Great History - Predictable and Cliche Story
Revisado: 06-22-24
If you’re seeking interesting and historical insights on the women who went to Vietnam, then you might find this a worthwhile read, but plan to hold your nose when it comes to the fictional parts because the storyline really stinks.
To say the story is cliche is a genuine understatement. To say it’s utterly and irritatingly predictable is a genuine fact.
If this is all that’s available in historical fiction about women in Vietnam, let it be known that there’s a distinct need for QUALITY storytelling on this topic.

Historia
In 2018, two couples set out on a climbing expedition to Alaska’s Hidden Mountains, one of the last wild ranges in North America. A rarity in modern climbing, the peaks were nearly unexplored and untouched, a place where few people had ever visited and granite spires still awaited first ascents. Inspired by generations of daring alpinists before them, the four climbers were now compelled to strike out into uncharted territory themselves.

Compelling Story in Need of Trimming

There’s a compelling story in all of this, though the author’s incorporation of excessive technical information bogs it down. Some important ethical considerations are explored which are worthy of deeper societal consideration.
