I got the first 3 books of this series as a publisher's pack on the Plus books. Got hooked and had to buy the last 3. It is a dystopian apocalypse series with quite a few twists. The characters are fleshed out really well and you care about them. The style of telling the story from the POV of individual characters is very good and keeps the story moving. It's also a love story which I thought oh no but the story was good enough to make that not trite. The author's military tactics knowledge seems amazing and well-researched. I almost never review but this series was interesting well written and well-performed.
Of course, you do have to enjoy a good apocalypse story.

Historia
A working stargate dating back more than 10,000 years has been discovered in North Dakota, on a Sioux reservation near Devils Lake. Travel through the gate currently leads to three equally mysterious destinations: (1) an apparently empty garden world, quickly dubbed Eden; (2) a strange maze of underground passageways; and (3) a space station with a view of a galaxy that appears to be the Milky Way.

I really liked this book. but I am not a fan of reading second books in a series so I tracked down the first book hard copy in Google Books and I let Google Play read it to me.
the narration is not as good as it is with a professional narrator but you get used to it. having read / listened to ancient Shores, the first book this book has a lot more continuity . that being said why every chapter had to start with a quote is annoying. I did like this enough to get the 3rd book if one comes along.

Revisado: 11-02-19
The story line has a really good twist on the aftermath of the Apocalypse on Earth. The characters are very well-developed and have depth. Having R.C. Bray as a narrator was a great choice. I am certain it made a difference to the book as an audible product.

Historia
More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by skydiving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.

I really loved R C Bray through the commune series but now I am finding he sounds completely the same in all the books I have listened too. This sounds strange I know because that's what we want but this is too the same for me right down to the inflections. maybe because this was the same style book.

Historia
One of the comedy world's fastest-rising stars tells his wild coming of age story during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa and the tumultuous days of freedom that followed. Noah provides something deeper than traditional memoirists: powerfully funny observations about how farcical political and social systems play out in our lives.

amazing biography, great narrating
Revisado: 04-19-17
If you could sum up Born a Crime in three words, what would they be?
entertaining, amazing, history,
What did you like best about this story?
I have watched the Daily Show for years. I have continued to watch since Trevor Noah became the host knowing nothing about him except he was a South African comedian. After reading this book I discovered that his accomplishments are amazing coming from his background growing up during apartheid in South Africa.
Which scene was your favorite?
This is not a dismal story of oppression and cruelty although those elements are intertwined. The scene where his dog was stolen and his mother got it back.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
This entire book is moving without being depressing. Of course, there are many parts that will shock we Americans make us angry, and there are sad parts as well but all in all, it is a great book of strength. This young man had the most wonderful mother.
Any additional comments?
I could not recommend any book more highly.

Revisado: 02-15-17
Would you listen to The Passage again? Why?
I already have while waiting for the 3rd book I re-listened to the 1st 2 books. I read and listen to many apocalyptic books zombie, virial, alien This story by far and away beats them all. A completely fresh plot idea. The characters are well fleshed out and complicated.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely. My whole house was clean, everything that needed painting was done, every mindless boring task that we all have to do were up to date while I was engrossed in these books. Even fence painting!
Any additional comments?
I belive I read somewhere that the film rights to this series have been purchased if they hold to the story line It will be a great series of movies or Netflix/amazon series. The books are Game of Thrones good.

In 2035, the southwestern United States is ravaged by drought, reeling from an environmental catastrophe that has left the landscape a chaotic, depleted ruin. California, still viably inhabitable due to its oppressive social controls, marshals state-of-the-art surveillance technology and totalitarian policies to preserve its fragile hold on rapidly dwindling resources and an increasingly unsettled population.

The subject matter is very timely and interesting
Revisado: 02-15-17
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes and no. The premise is really timely to climate change. It is short on the science. It has a very action movie overall plot. I am more a science, tech person so I found the action/military chase and battles a little tiresome. However, I am writing a review which I very rarely take the time to do, so I guess I did enjoy it.
If you’ve listened to books by Steven Konkoly before, how does this one compare?
1st time
What about Timothy Andrés Pabon’s performance did you like?
good overall narrator as we all know the narrator can just kill a book for audio. He was good.
Could you see Fractured State being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
It certainly would lend itself to film of either kind probably more of an action movie.
Any additional comments?
I am going to try book 2.
