Historia
In The Crash Detectives, veteran aviation journalist and air safety investigator Christine Negroni takes us inside crash investigations from the early days of the jet age to the present, including the search for answers about what happened to the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. As Negroni dissects what happened and why, she explores their common themes and, most important, what has been learned from them to make planes safer.

I feel safer now
Revisado: 03-23-25
Christine Negroni manages to write a book factually accurate while also writing a fascinating story about aviation. I especially enjoyed learning about the pilot who used all his previous experiences when he brings a passenger jet with many souls safely home.

Historia
The man’s body is found in the early morning light by a local dog walker in the park outside Rosebank, a home for troubled teens in the coastal village of Longwater. The victim is Josh, a staff member, who was due to work the previous night but never showed up. DI Vera Stanhope is called out to investigate the death, with her only clue being the disappearance of one of the home’s residents, fourteen-year-old Chloe Spence. Vera can’t bring herself to believe that a teenager is responsible for the murder, but even she can’t dismiss the possibility.

I love the new character of Rosie Bell.
Revisado: 11-17-24
I love the new character of Rosie Bell. She replaces a member of Vera’s team, Holly, who died the previous year while on a case and under terrible circumstances. One of the underlying themes of this book is Vera’s sense of guilt over Holly’s death and Vera’s promise to change. (Vera tries, but of course does not succeed.)
The other reason Rosie is a good addition to the cast of characters in this series is that it shakes up Vera’s relationship with Joe and his with her. Rosie will not put up with any nonsense from Vera. She hates being kept out of the loop. Anne Cleeves has given herself a good bump to her storyline as I think the relationship between Joe and Rosie may become tense; Joe has already thrown out a comment to Rosie deliberately trying to make her question her relationship with Vera.
I am not crazy about the storyline, but am unable to define why. My love and admiration for the writing, and for the characters has not changed, which is why I gave this book 5 stars. I tend to go back to books three-four years later and maybe on the second reading will appreciate the storyline more.

Historia
Cindy Murphy is the early 2000s poster girl for having it all. A top job in finance in Manhattan, two delightful daughters and a house in the suburbs. But Cindy’s life is built on a lie. She’s really a Russian spy sent to live in deep cover in the US and send intel back to Moscow. Rosamund Pike narrates this true story documentary about an extraordinary woman who deceives her friends, neighbors, boss and even her children.

Historia
In 2021 cryptocurrency went mainstream. Giant investment funds were buying it, celebrities like Tom Brady endorsed it, and TV ads hailed it as the future of money. Hardly anyone knew how it worked—but why bother with the particulars when everyone was making a fortune from Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, or some other bizarrely named “digital asset”? As he observed this frenzy, investigative reporter Zeke Faux had a nagging question: Was it all just a confidence game of epic proportions? What started as curiosity—with a dash of FOMO—would morph into a two-year globe-spanning quest.

Historia
In this fascinating account, Ann Rule delivers a tour de force: a whirlwind of misguided love, denial, guilt, and passions out of control; a series of brilliantly manipulated crimes; the bizarre and horrifying tale of two families brought to ruin; and, at the center of it all, the heartless, supremely selfish sociopath whose evil hid behind soft words and gentle manners, but who destroyed—without mercy—those who loved her.

My least favorite true crime book by Ann Rule.
Revisado: 07-23-23
For the most part, I have enjoyed all of Ann Rule’s true crime books. I did not like this story because I took a particular dislike to the main character, Pat. I had a very difficult time understanding her parents and family who were all in such denial about Pat that they supported Pat yet turned - shunned- the daughter who bravely eventually turned her mother in to the authorities to prevent from harming another person. I actually had to stop listening to the story and even skipped over parts to try to get to an end where this woman was punished. I was just disgusted by the outcome, and never felt this woman was properly punished for her crimes, which were myriad.

For all its old-fashioned charm, Forbes Abbot is far from the close-knit community that ex-Londoners Mallory and Kate Lawson expected. In this village, everyday squabbles can quickly turn to murder. As the couple begins to settle into their new life away from the big city, it isn't long until they're thrown into the horror and mayhem of a true Midsomer Murders mystery. This Barnaby mystery did not tie together
Revisado: 07-16-23
I would agree with the reviewer who mentioned that Barnaby and Troy do not come into the story until at least 4 hours into listening time - this was a big disappointment for me to and for that reason alone, it’s my least favorite Barnaby mystery, I also found that many of the plot threads in the mystery did not come together with any satisfactory conclusion and I was left feeling as though Caroline Graham did not know how to end her tale - so she just stopped.

Historia
Despite the fierce, and seemingly personal, objections of secretary Gerald Hadleigh, members of the Midsomer Worthy Writers' Circle press ahead and invite bestselling author Max Jennings to talk to their group. Besides, it's not as though he'll say yes. So when Jennings turns up to their meeting, they are completely over-awed by his presence. But before the evening is over, Gerald has been brutally murdered. Summoned to investigate, Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby discovers that Gerald's life was as much of a mystery to his neighbours as his violent death.

This is one of my favorites! It keeps you guessing. The character who rescues one of the protagonist is not revealed until the very end - so don’t stop listening to the story.

Such a sad story
Revisado: 02-15-23
So much about this story made me very sad because it’s about small-town America, and what happens to people when they’re throwaway children. Who knows if this boy was always violent, but the end result is that he killed someone. He certainly needed to be taken off out of society. Could he possibly be rehabilitated? I don’t know - but on another note, I love the way you present these stories. In addition I admire the fact that you really seem to research them. Thank you.

Historia
In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the next Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with its breakthrough device, which performed the whole range of laboratory tests from a single drop of blood. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.5 billion.

Fantastic read
Revisado: 01-11-23
I couldn’t stop listening to this book and being horrified, as well as mystified. I don’t understand how Elizabeth Holmes was able to get as far as she did but certainly a lot of very intelligent people lost their minds. I found the story about George Schultz and his grandson, Tyler, particularly tragic. Imagine choosing to believe a tale woven by a con artist rather than your own family. Hubris. The writing and narration are both stellar.
