Historia
Every day, we find ourselves in gatherings, Priya Parker says in The Art of Gathering. If we can understand what makes these gatherings effective and memorable, then we can reframe and redirect them to benefit everyone, host and guest alike. Parker defines a gathering as three or more people who come together for a specific purpose. When we understand why we gather, she says - to acknowledge, to learn, to challenge, to change - we learn how to organize gatherings that are relevant and memorable.

Change your perspective on gathering - from classes to dinner parties
Revisado: 02-14-25
The concepts really changed my perspective on gathering in many different social situations. Even wen the author describes situations I never expect to be in, I think the concepts presented will generalize to the gatherings in my world.

Historia
We used to think of failure as the opposite of success. Now, we’re often torn between two “failure cultures”: one that says to avoid failure at all costs, the other that says fail fast, fail often. The trouble is that both approaches lack the crucial distinctions to help us separate good failure from bad. As a result, we miss the opportunity to fail well. After decades of award-winning research, Amy Edmondson is here to upend our understanding of failure and make it work for us. In Right Kind of Wrong, Edmondson provides the framework to think, discuss, and practice failure wisely.

Rambling narration
Revisado: 10-15-24
It's hard for me to gve an adequate assessment of the content, because the narration was so monotone and rambling - I couldn't stay engaged. I gave up at the end of chapter 5.

Transformed: Moving to the Product Operating Model was written to bridge the gap between where most companies are right now and where they need to be. The leaders of these companies know they must transform to compete in an era of rapidly changing enabling technology, but most of them have never operated this way before.

Mr Cagan brings it all together
Revisado: 04-07-24
I liked that this completes a triangle started by Inspired and Empowered. in many ways I wish this had been the first book, but coming out now as the 3rd book (4th if you include Loved), still works.
Based on my experience over the past few years, I will say this book is highly aspirational, as many of my clients aren't ready to make such grand, sweeping changes. But, having seen the problems created by incomplete transformations, I appreciate the guideposts in this book identifying what needs to be done.
Thank you Marty & SVPG.

Very good starting point for Applied OKRs
Revisado: 11-06-23
While I generally don't care for 'story' business books, the first half did help the concepts land better for me. This book helped me understand how to apply OKRs.
My only complaint is the narrator reading off URLs (www dot word dot com slash....). Please put the URL references in a downloadable . PDF file and refer by number or something.

Historia
Brandi Carlile was born into a musically gifted, impoverished family on the outskirts of Seattle and grew up in a constant state of change, moving from house to house, trailer to trailer, 14 times in as many years. Though imperfect in every way, her dysfunctional childhood was as beautiful as it was strange, and as nurturing as it was difficult. At the age of five, Brandi contracted bacterial meningitis, which almost took her life, leaving an indelible mark on her formative years and altering her journey into young adulthood.

Historia
If you have ever been part of a great team, you will know it is exponentially better than being part of a mediocre team. Teams are at the heart of working in complex domains and are essential to the success of agile approaches yet relatively few teams achieve greatness. Agile and leadership coach Geoff Watts has pulled together his many years of experience with all sorts of teams from software to product development, from medical teams to sports teams and has identified five common characteristics of great teams:

Dry performance, high level survey of the concepts
Revisado: 06-16-19
The droning, monotonic reading, made this difficult to get through. The concepts of OKRs are presented at a summary level, with an emphasis on "look how this company succeeded by using them." Not what I was looking for.

Historia
Legendary magician Penn Jillette was approaching his 60th birthday. Topping 330 pounds and saddled with a systolic blood pressure reading over 200, he knew he was at a dangerous crossroads: If he wanted to see his small children grow up, he needed to change. And then came Crazy Ray. A former NASA scientist and an unconventional, passionate innovator, Ray Cronise saved Jillette's life with his wild "potato diet". Outspoken, frank, and bitingly clever, Presto is an incisive, rollicking listen.

Caution strong language, bad metaphors, and babbling abound in this book. At least the author had the decency to tell us he might be full of it in a disclaimer.

Historia
David Marquet, an experienced Navy officer, was used to giving orders. Marquet acted like any other captain until, one day, he unknowingly gave an impossible order, and his crew tried to follow it anyway. Marquet realized he was leading in a culture of followers, and they were all in danger unless they fundamentally changed the way they did things. Struggling against his own instincts to take control, he instead achieved the vastly more powerful model of giving control.
