Historia
Abandoned as an infant by his actress mother in her theater dressing room, August March was raised by an ancient laundress. Highly intelligent, a tad feral, August is a true child of the theater - able to recite Shakespeare before he knew the alphabet. But like all productions, August’s wondrous time inside the theater comes to a close, and he finds himself in the wilds of postwar New York City, where he quickly rises from pickpocket street urchin to star student at the stuffiest boarding school in the nation.

Silly and boring..sorry
Revisado: 09-18-24
Not sure how this got so many great reviews. I tried to like it but the utter silliness and lack of emotional grounding just got me, There was not a single character that was not a cartoon and that got old quickly.

Very engaging storyline, clever and unexpected. Beautiful prose at times, and I loved the UK accents by the narrator. Enjoyed it a lot

Disappointing, abrupt ending. Made little sense. The medical scenes were laughable and idiotic . Unsure of the point unless it was to set up a sequo which I surely would not pay for

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Such an unlikeable main character…
Revisado: 11-20-23
It was kind of hard to get through this. The main character is sort of a miserable person, which I guess is the point of the book, and I’m glad that she evolved, but she was just so unlikable from start to finish.

From the glamorous to the entitled, from royalty to the financially ruined, everyone who wanted to be seen—or just to gawk—at the hottest restaurants in New York City came to places Michael Cecchi-Azzolina helped run. His phone number was passed around among those who wanted to curry favor, during the decades when restaurants replaced clubs and theater as, well, theater in the most visible, vibrant city in the world. Besides dropping us back into a vanished time, Your Table Is Ready takes us places we’d never be able to get into on our own.

Historia
It's been more than 50 years since a tornado tore through a drive-in movie theater in tiny Mercer, Illinois, leaving dozens of teens - a whole generation of Mercerites - dead in its wake. So when another tornado touches down in the exact same spot on the anniversary of this small-town tragedy, the town is shaken. For Brenna Ortiz, Joshua Calloway, and Callie Keller, the apprehension is more than just a feeling. Though they seem to share nothing more than a struggle to belong, the teens' paths continue to intersect, bringing them together when they least expect it.

Disappointing
Revisado: 02-21-21
wow, loved the first book but this was a rushed and ill advised book, written before there was really a story in mind I suspect. here is why its a failure:
a. character developmentent
-Wade Watts' character was developed in Ready Player 1. there was an arc. he started out at one place, and grew/matured and become a better version of himself and we cheered that as readers
-in this book, for conveniece, the author jut unwound that development. we find out that he was the better person for a week, then regressed to irritating, selfish, nasty and several other things that he wasn't even in the first book. how is that not a betrayal of the reader? its just sloppy of the author, and disappointing.
b. the story lacked true urgency.
- yeah yeah, the ONI and 12 hrs and all, but that was so forced. he needed to build some kind of need to understand Kira, as a key to something. what was the deeper theme of the book? I got lost in the confusing and unending garbage
-the L0hengrin character was totally superfluous. what was the point there> still trying to figure that out. a way to get more females in there? please. try making the ones you have, less 2D. in this book samantha is just flat. a do gooder who just takes Wade back no questions asked after years. does this describe any human being you have ever known? for that matter, Sho and H are also just background cut outs.
God I hate this, have listened to Ready Player One probably a dozen times, loved the story, the build, the suspense, the hunt, the cleverness, the humor. It just doesn't work to try and write a book without a story first. my suggestion? can this one, reflect more on the story, what the point would be, what makes sense in terms of these characters. live with that awhile, and rewrite this!!

From Martin Clark - praised by Entertainment Weekly as "our best legal-thriller writer" - comes a wickedly clever, tenderhearted, and intricately plotted novel about a hard-luck lawyer's refusal to concede defeat, even as fate, the court system, and a gang of untouchable con artists conspire against him.

Awful, boring nothing-sandwich
Revisado: 11-22-20
What the heck, where did all the 5 star reviews come from? this was really a dull, irritating, poorly paced book with an unlikeable protagonist, whom the author really wanted the reader to think of as a George Clooney knockoff. I don't get it. The story was totally without suspense or variation in tone up until the last 20 min, the 'denouement' where the narrator had to explain everything in a contrived conversation, rather than let the reader discover it. Was I supposed to think of Kevin Moore as some kind of robber hero for his actions? Knowing his actions removed whatever respect I had for him going in. A good 'legal thriller' allows the reader to share in the disbelief, the discovery, the despair, the hope, the planning, the inner life of the protagonist (I am purposefully avoiding the word 'hero'- he is a self righteous thief). Instead this story kept the reader the same place as all of the other characters- in the dark, being fooled and treated like dupes. Totally hated this one.

Poorly done
Revisado: 06-27-20
Great premise but the execution of these books is so poor. The writer has little sense of pacing, supposedly tense scenes drag and get muddled. There is NO character development. Chracter development is not saying: Jacob is now a new Jacob, it happens by showing the conflct between desire and fear, its showing stepwise forward movement, its letting the reader see the unfolding. None of the other characters get the slightest bit of attention. They are one dimensional and stay that way. I wish he had a better editor.
