I fell in love with Ina all over again!
Revisado: 04-04-25
I loved learning more about who Ina is as a person and how she has accomplished all of the wonderful things she has experienced. It was delightful listening to her narrate. I highly recommend this book even if you aren't a foodie! ;-)

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

Major triggers!
Revisado: 03-03-25
Spoiler Alert! This book has violence, adult situations, child abuse and language. If any of these things are triggers for you, then you should not listen to this book.
I would not have read this book if it had not been recommended by my bookclub. This book should have come with a warning. I found myself skipping through parts to get past some of the situations.
The characters are all over the place, it jumps from person to person without really fulfilling some plot lines. There are several story lines where you have no idea what happened to that charcter.
I would not recommend this book to anyone.
But the narrator was great. He did a wonderful job with the different dialects and people. I would listen to him again.

With its ensemble of warm and unforgettable characters, The Faculty Lounge shows listeners a different side of school life. It all starts when an elderly substitute teacher at Baldwin High School is found dead in the faculty lounge. After a bit of a stir, life quickly returns to normal. But when, a week later, the spontaneous scattering of his ashes on the school grounds catches the attention of some busybody parents, it sets in motion a year that can only be described as wild, bizarre, tragic, mundane, beautiful, and humorous all at once.

Revisado: 02-21-25
This is one of the most boring books I have listened to in ages. I would have normally give up and returned it by the third or fourth chapter. But this was for my bookclub.
There is no plot, there is very little connection between the characters. It is several chapters about the different people but it lead nowhere. It had so much potential but was sorely lacking. I was really surprised someone had recommended it. I certainly would not.

This was a delightful story. It brings out imagination and the ability to think about the "what ifs" and destiny. A little mystery and intrigue. I highly recommend this book.

Revisado: 02-04-24
The length is ridiculous. The story could have been half and still been adequate. I skipped an entire part just to get through it. I also found the quotes at the beginning of nearly every chapter annoying and unnecessary. This is not the best book and I'm not certain I will get the next one.

Historia
In 1986, Paul Newman and his closest friend, screenwriter Stewart Stern, began an extraordinary project. Stuart was to compile an oral history, to have Newman’s family and friends and those who worked closely with him, talk about the actor’s life. And then Newman would work with Stewart and give his side of the story. The only stipulation was that anyone who spoke on the record had to be completely honest. The result is The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man—revelatory and introspective, personal and analytical, loving and tender in places, always complex and profound.

Excellent story of the real Paul Newman
Revisado: 09-13-23
I have to say my opinion of Paul Newman has changed somewhat. But not in a bad way, just different. I'm not sure what I thought before, but perhaps I had him on a moviestar pedestal and didn't know it
This book is unlike any other memoir I have ever listened to or read before. They usually bore me to tears, so I almost never finish them or avoid them altogether.
Changing narrators when a different person was giving their perspective was refreshing.
It is not told in a way that says, "First I did this, then I did that." It is told with honesty and gives an authentic view of Paul Newman, the man, the imperfect person with a dysfunctional family and real issues. It is not sugar-coated or flowery. It's real and raw. However, it is funny in parts, sad in others, and entirely unexpected. Yes, I definitely have a different perspective of Mr. Newman.
Now, I want to go back and watch some of his movies knowing what I do. I believe it gives a different depth to the person behind the characters.
I highly recommend listening to this book even if you have only seen one or two of his movies. You'll be glad you did!

Historia
Some people greet the day with open arms. Sheriff Sunshine Vicram would rather give it a hearty shove and get back into bed, because there’s just too much going on right now. There’s a series of women going missing, and Sunny feels powerless to stop it. There’s her persistent and awesomely-rebellious daughter Auri, who’s out to singlehandedly become Del Sol’s youngest and fiercest investigator. And then there’s drama with Levi Ravinder—the guy she’s loved and lusted after for years. The guy who might just be her one and only.

Read the book, don't listen to it!
Revisado: 09-16-22
This has to be one of the most annoying books I have ever listened to on audible. The fact that it is over 32 hours long makes it worse. Really wish I had read more reviews before I downloaded it.
The story is good but all of the flipping twitter conversations, direct messages and anagrams became monotonous. It does NOT translate into audio at all. I was able to follow it most of the time because I use social media but it got ridiculous.
The story could have been told without all of the twitter conversations. I liked the premise but it is too drawn out. The story had too many characters to keep up with and it became confusing between handles and real names.
Very disappointed in this book after waiting so long. I hope the next one is better.

Revisado: 08-09-22
It's a pretty good story I guess but the narrator talks very fast and always seemed out of breath. I understand being dramatic in parts but he was always dramatic!! geez! I just can't listen to another book in this series because he narrates them all!
